So I have been on Vicodin ES for the last few months do to constant pain in my bladder area since my last 2 laproscopic surgeries. I have had tests and nothing wrong was found. There is a term for pain and finding nothing wrong but I can't remember the name. I am looking into pain management but think my best bet is to stay on the vicodin (I only take 1/2 and it works). Seems like it is the only answer. I have done a little research on pain management and it seems like these pain meds are much stronger.
Any advice? My doctor doesn't want to keep giving me the vicodin and I don't know where else to turn.

" Many PCP's are not writing for narcotics because they fear the repercussions of the DEA and the potential for abuse and diversion of pain meds. That is no excuse, but it is what it is. So instead of treating us, they ship us off to pain docs who some thank goodness have compassion and help those of us with CP or IP(intractable pain).

Even though you are on a miniscule dose, I'd still go to the pain doc and tell him you take a very little amount of the vicodin, and that manages your pain. IMO I would think the doc would be happy to keep you on a small dose. At least this way if in the future you may need to go up, you are with the right doc to do that. "

" Hi again,
I just went thru the exact same thing, it has been tough, and it was not able to get into a pain clinic in time before meds run out. so anyway, I did some research and found a dr who specialized in Suboxone, which is normally for people who are addicted not for pain and want to get off the misuse. She said I was not a candidate for the Sub my opiate dose was too small, but she has great understanding of pain meds and is willing to work with me, she needed full dr reports xrays and all the info as to treat my case. You might want to look for drs in your area if you cant get into a pain clinic that specialize in Sub, as at least in mines case she was much different that my PCP. If you google sub there are sites that list drs in your area.
well take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing

all the best,
duane "

" The problem is, vicodin as well as certain other narcotics are brutal to your body long term. They can hurt your liver and kidneys. You may find a doctor to prescribe it, but what it does to your body long term is not good. I agree that you should be comfortable, but the most important thing is to find what is causing the pain and fix it so you are not on meds forever. This can be a long and frustrating task - but a necessary one. "

" The DEA is evil. The Government should have NO right to control how doctor's treat their patients. At least you get some Vicodin, I get NOTHING. My PCP refuses to prescribe me anything, and he sent me to a "Interventional" Pain management doctor who is going to give me injections in my back..but I'm not scheduled until October. I pretty much have to suffer until then. I smoke Marijuana and it helps a great deal, but I shouldn't be forced to resort to that. Its not legal for medicinal purposes in NY state where I live. Would I suggest it to someone though? If you are suffering, absolutely. Just be careful. "

" There are terms, imaginary, malingering but the fact is pain is an "invisible" disorder. I am glad you have a doc who believes you have pain and is treating you.
Pain management doc is a good idea. If a small dose of vicodin helps it may be that you cn change to another drug that has less potential for dependence. They are the ones who have the knowledge and experience to offer you options.
Good luck
