i got a gut feeling to go see my mom early this morning around 8 am, my dad was on his way and would get there around 8:30 am. when i go there i walked in mothers room and she was bent completely over, head on knees and unresponsive, i thought she was dead. i screamed at her, mother, mother, and she raised her head up and her eyes were rolled in back of her head, and she couldnt talk above a whisper. she was very confused and disoriented. her paralyed arm was wedged between her chair and her bed, her glasses were folded neatly and lodged between her thighs. i rang call light, tech came in i asked her if she got mother up she said yes, and at that point i pretty much lost it. i asked her why did you leave her like this, she says i didnt she must have taken her glasses off, folded them put them between her thighs and put her paralyzed arm between chair and bed and pushed her table away and laid her head on her knees. WTF! i told her i have had enough, its every day and it stops today, i told her she had better take a look at the care plan and how could any one keep walking up and down the hall and not see her like this, she smarted off,"i dont have to listen to this i am going to get nurse" i smarted back off, "that would be the safest thing for you to do right now" ten minutes later, while i am talking to my mother trying to keep her responsive nurse and a couple of techs stroll by headed to go out for smoke break, i stopped her and told i sent for you 10 minutes ago, look at my mom (i would not let tech straighten her up, i wanted nurse to see her the way i found her) nurse made every excuse in the world, your mom does this, thats when i really lost it, "i have spent every day the last 3 yrs by my mothers side,SHE CANT DO THIS, SHE IS NOT PHYSICALLY CAPABLE OF DOING THIS, LOOK AT HER!!!!!" I want an ambulance now! nurse said she would call dr and ask him, i told her call him but no matter what he says, i say call ambulance right now. get to hospital, they get mothers list of meds she has had over last 30 days, adivan is one of them, the med i have been questioning everyday that is keeping her sedated, anyways, er dr checked her from head to toe, found out she has not had lasik since she was admitted to nursing home, mother has CHF, dont know why dr dc'd lasik, edema was so bad that it took them two hours and 4 different ppl to finally get blood. she had scans she had urine sample to check for uti. i mean they check her over good. dr came in and said i have good news and bad news, your mom will be ok, bad news, she is being over medicated with adivan and i am going to dc the adivan, i asked if i could have copy of that and he gave it to me. protocol says er faxes results to nurisng home when they are ready to send her back, i get mothers things, they call ambulance to take her back. i get to nursing home told nurse that mother is on her way back. nurse said i cant take her back, i asked why not, she said that dr white has quit being her dr, when someone, i wonder who, called and told him that er dr sent results that she had been od'd with adivan he said he was no longer her dr. i think there is law against quitting a nursing home patient like that, something about dr has to give so many day notice. but anyways, i am losing it again, go out and call hospital ask them to admit her because dr quit her and she cant come back until she has attending dr. they said no and that i had to come get her right then or they would charge me with abandonment, WTF!!! i told them i did not asbandon her, the dr did, he is her caregiver not me. i called hospital case manager and told her what was going on and that i ws going to get new dr tomorrow, told her his name, she gave me his cell # i called explained everything and he took her, i have heard good things about him (fingers crossed) he called hospital and nursing home and told them he ws her dr so she was sent back to nursing home. can a nursing home staff dr just quit a resident because he was caught over sedating her with adivan? the hospital called a little while ago and asked for all the details i told them everything, they are investigating the dr and the person that called and said they would charge me with abandonment. the nursing home admin send me msg through nurse that she wants to see me first thing in the morning, how stupid is she? i am the last person she wants to see right now, seriously, i am. she has a bad attitude too. i am calling her tomorrow and telling her first of all she doesnt demand to see me, she can request that we meet when it is convienient for both of us, and that when we meet dr cha and dr white will be there and i will have an advocate, lawyer, or ombudsman with me, they od'd my mom and then got mad cause er dr documented it! wtf do i do!!!

Holy crap! You've gone to hell and back with these doctors and nursing homes...I don't have a clue what to do, just wanted to say I'm sorry that you're going through all of this AGAIN! I am sure someone here has the answers for you. Good luck, I sincerely wish you well and will keep checking to see how it goes.
Love Muriel

Reply #2 is right. Get an onbudsmen for your mom. They are there to help the elderly in these situations nd that is the last thing the nursing home wants. I worked in a facilitated home and believe me they are afraid, but they do try to cover up for each other. The journal with dates is a real good thing. Good luck and God Bless...R

he wrote it prn and the nurses gave it to her every time they could not figure out what she was trying to say, prn every 2 hours. i am going to have him investegaed, he tried to killl my mom, psycholigist was in meeting and he had a fit cause my mother is not agressive, she does talk she doesnt walk, no medical reason for adivan and it is the reason she has been so depressed, this dr has not heard the last from me, i added a comment on my journal you might want to read.

i work in a nursing home funded by the state, and let me tell you i am going through the same thing!!! they could be slapped with a law suit for one, along with the dr. prn is to be used as needed and i am sure it is not needed every 2 hrs.
my friend is a 4o yr old man with a tbi, his family has him in the nursing home for the last 3 yrs, well he was sent out to a psych hosp. for outbursts and he came back heavily sedated. for the past month he has been off of them b/c he refuses to take them. he actually came to life in the past mo. they can't handle him though, so they have been crushing depakote, abilify, and clozaril in his drinks or food. now in the state of pa at the age of 14 you do not have to take meds if you don't want to. i am in the process of getting another job and when i do look the fuck out!!! i am getting a lawyer first to become his guardian and than i am fighting till the death of me to get him the hell out of there! i would contact a lawyer b/c you definately have something.
