"Always take time each week to recognize that you are important, and making a commitment to exercise regularly is a reflection of that.
There are too many "signals" from daily life that send a message that we are not important...but in order to value others, we need to value ourselves first. If you have a busy schedule at work or school, or in community or family responsibilities, it is easy to get so wrapped up in serving others that you fail to serve yourself. Without your health, would you be able to achieve the things you want to? Make your workouts a priority, and put them in your weekly schedule book as an important appointment!" Every time I'm feeling lazy, I always read that sticky and it encourages me to exercise... Do any of you have similiar "reminders" to help keep you focused? Posted on 10/14/07, 12:10 pm |

LOVE your reminder, Diane! I have similar reminders all over the house; but, the one I have on my computer (I created a desktop image of it) is from "Life's Little Instruction Book" by H. Jackson Brown:
"Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon." Although it's been attributed to the Dalai Lama, that is incorrect (although provocative)...but I don't care where it comes from, it pretty much sums up the way I feel about life.

OOO... you girls just reminded me of the dishes waiting for me...
But seriously... from a book I read lately, I have put up "Don't make assumptions." Believe it or not, this one little thing makes me slow down a few times a day and compare what I think someone is saying or thinking... to what information I am really getting. Then if I'm still not clear on what's going on... I ask questions! It's changing the way I do everything... slowly....

Except for the laundry (_!_), I have to copy these for myself. I have to think about the love and cooking one...
For me right now, I have two: 1)Take my walk in the park nearly every day! (Fortunately, my brother is here in the morning so I can do that. I don't know if I could hack it alone!!!) 2) Take a nap! It seems I get better sleep during nap than at night. I've had some hard jobs, but this caregivine is by far the most difficult! I need every strength I can gather.. Thanks for idea!

I was doing a pretty good job of exercising until I had a heart attack and open heart surgery last year. Eventho I know I need to do it I am just overcome with inertia and can't make myself go to the gym. I bought resistance bands thinking I would do something at home. They are still in the box. I am fairly active at work but certainly not aerobic. I'm not worried that exercise will cause chest pains or something. I just can't make myself do it. Any ideas?I am caregiver for my husband who has vascular dementia but at this point I could certainly get away for a little while. Maybe tomorrow...
