Job After Long Illness

I have been trying to get back into finance/accounting after a long illness. Every time I go on an interview they ask me about the gaps in my employment so I tell them that I was sick and it took a long time to get a diagnosis. Actually twenty plus doctors and a lot of research on my part and I was finally diagnosed with Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency so I tell them Addison's disease because it's also called Secondary Addison's disease. After that I never hear from them again. I just don't know what to say or do to get back into the work force. I am being treated and after you are on hormones you can live a normal life.
In all honestly I was mold exposed and this caused all my problems and I couldn't get help because it's a political disease like Lyme disease. This is what actually caused my adrenal insufficiency. I'm so discouraged. I want to get back into the work force but no one will give me a chance. I also think my age is working against me. Any suggestions would be helpful. I understand the frustration. I went through Breast Cancer treatment. The medical center gave us a course on how to find a job and how to avoid questions about insurance. Can you find one of those?
Other than that, I wouldn't get into any health related questions. Agree or disagree with me: I'd condsider telling them that I took a long needed sabattical to get some R & R and to explore my interests. Rationalize that in telling yourself that you got some rest because you had to and then that your interest is mold and how it affect a person's health. Good Luck

Have you considered working as an independent contractor? My guess is that potential employers won't hire you as an employee because they are fearful of adding to their health insurance costs.
As an independent contractor you are usually paid a higher wage than an employee but there are no benefits (health insurance, 401K, automatic tax withdrawal, etc.). Particularly if you are willing to travel I suspect there are many possibilities as an independent contractor. Once you prove yourself, the odds are pretty good you could get a job offer again.
