Since before I was diagnosed I have had pain in the area of my liver, this is where most of my disease has metastisized to but the Doc's say there are no nerves in the liver and it should not hurt. They are at a loss as to where this pain is comming from. I was wondering if anyone else out ther is getting pain associated with there carcinoid syndrom?

My husband is currently dealing with tumors in the liver but no pain. In fact, he appears healthy to most people. When he had the cancer in the pancreas, though, he had a lot of pain. Eventually he had to take percocet to help him tolerate the pain.

Are you on sando LAR? Many people get pain from the gall bladder which is attached to the liver... tends to get sluggish after years of usage. I occasionally get right upper abdomen pain but another noid told me to reposition... usually gas is the problem. Are you seeing a carcinoid specialist or just an oncologist?

My oncologist says that the liver mets can irritate the lining of the abdomen and cause pain. She also said that the tension caused by the tumors displacing liver tissue will cause pressure on the ribs (that's where my pain is). So the pain is not necessarily the liver itself, but other organs around it feeling pressure and janetburnett is right about the gall bladder being a source of pain. (Mine just died, and I had it removed, so that's how I know that.)

Yes, I am having pain too. I was diagnosed last Nov., and its in my pancreas, liver and lymph nodes. Just this past month I've started having pain in the area of my liver too, well it is mainly in my ribs, under my right arm and in the middle of my back. My family doc sent me for another CT scan, which showed enlargement of tumors; - more I won't know until after I see my Onocologist Monday. Also started coughing some blood, which is scary. Has anyone else experienced this? I am a little scared, but I'm sure most anyone would be. My only treatment has been a monthly injection of Sandostatin. I am going to see if my Onocologist will refer me to a large medical center, such as Duke, UVA or MCV (in VA) as my specialist here has only seen 5 cases of NET's in his 30 yrs of practice.
Best of luck to you, let me know how you are doing. Judi
