CHANTIX

Hi Everyone,

I almost feel like a complete idiot as...yes, I am still smoking.

I was able to quit twice with Chantix, and although at first it made me nauseous, it almost completely diminishe any cravings.

Then the holidays came around. Most of the family smokes. I began back again both times as a result of family gatherings.

As of Jan, 2008, my drug coverage has changed. I am disabled and on medicare. However the drug plan is seperate. This one does not cover Chantix.

I have had other meds that have had to go through prior authorization, and they do eventually pay. I am wondering if my COPD would be a way for my doctor to get authorization?

" The very worst thing about COPD is not the shortness of breath. Believe it or not you can get used to it as long as you take things easy. With exercise your muscles take up the slack and you can do more with less Oxygen. The worst thing is the anxiety and hopelessness that often accompany COPD. It's far worse than the Disease itself and it happens to nearly all of us; the feeling of absolute despair when you wonder "how long can I fight this disease?"
Give yourself a chance and stop smoking NOW – I did after smoking for over fifty years and I was smoking a minimum of 80 cigarettes a day
Please see http:/www.becomeanex.com – you do not want to end up like me on oxygen 24/7 and constantly

" I am still smoking too. I tried to quit, got by nearly a week, just smoking one or two a day. Then, a stressful event knocked me right over. I am going to try the Chantix when I get my first check from SSDI. I wish you well, and hope you are able to quit. God bless! "

" I have GREAT news. My doctor managed to get around my insurance plan, and I did get back on the Chantix. It is making me so sick to my stomach. However, I have BEEN QUIT for 3 days now! Yay!

I am debating stopping the medicine because the nausea and vomiting are getting to be overwhelming. Both times I was on it before, it had diminished by now. I'm just afraid it will increase my cravings again.

I am surrounded by temptation everywhere, but I am sticking to my guns.

I haven't had a chance to report in until now. I also didn't want to say anything, until at least 24 hours went by without a cigarette.

One of the things that is keeping me strong is that the price went up again. A pack is over $6 now..for ONE! I am sick of giving my money to these people.

Thank you everyone for your support. I don't know that I would have tried so hard to take this step now, if it weren't for your inspirational responses.

HUGS! "

" As long as I kept buying them, I kept smoking them.
Every pack I bought was going to be my LAST PACK.

I'm using nicotine gum now with no craving for cigarettes.

I do want to quit the gum as soon as possible because
its expensive.

Hope the Chantix works. Take care. Ted "

" Hi everyone. I have a journal that is public. You may read it to see where I am at. I am having problems with the medication, I think. The doctor is not sure if is the
Chantix causing it, or if it's GI related.

I have cut my dosage to 1/4 of what the normal dosage is. I am going to see if this works. I am not ready to stop it altogether. However, I may have to, if they find out it's the cause of my illnesses.

HUGS "
