" Oops didn't mean to hit add yet lol

The main thing NOT to do in a divorce is not to think that this person is the same person you were married to.. do not trust them to do the right thing, or be reasonable etc... it very very seldom works out that way. They are different people now, and they are capable of things that you never saw coming. "

" Don't try to do it without a lawyer. Don't be "nice" thinking that it will win you any points with your STBX or make him/her reconcile. Don't give away anything unless you get something in return. Don't get angry -- this is a business situation now, don't forget that. Don't do anything to hurt your kids. Don't lie....your STBX will probably do enough of that for both of you. "

" Don't let the drama define you.

Find time to do things that you enjoy and spend time with people you enjoy without talking/thinking about the divorce. "

" Do not tell your x or stbx anything. Nothing personal, nothing legal, nothing. Be VERY careful with your emails. Keep your emotions in check the best that you can when dealing with x. Do not trust your x or his/her word. You should know better than anyone else exactly what you are dealing with in this situation. How would your x handle getting extra change in store? Would he/she be honest and return the extra or would it be pocketed (and they go around bragging about it)? This is how they will likely deal with you...remember that! "
