I found the paperwork to file for Indiana divorce all I have to do is fill in the blanks.

We have the house and one car payment, no other credit.

We have 2 kids together and he is already direct depositing child support into my checking account.

It could be a simple cut and dry divorce. I would only have to pay the $153 filing fees.

I have been debating filing all day today. I have been putting it off.

He is looking for a new job, which could be more money and better insurance.

Here are my questions:

1. Should I file without an attorney?
2. Should I wait and let him file?
3. Am I holding onto his freedom by waiting to file or putting my life on hold?
4. Are current money arrangement is working, so why rock the boat? If I go thru the courts it will take awhile before I get my money.
5. How long do I wait before I do file? he is enjoying single life and is not in any hurry to come home.

Thanks for your help.

" Kimmers I have tried this, no matter how easy the paperwork seems, it's not. when you try to get though court without an attorney, you'll always get some "homework" to do before showing up again, I'm a meticulous person and found this impossible. After 4.5 yeasr,I finally hired an attorney, my ex lives back inb the UK, the process went smooth and seamless. Seriously, don't try this alone you'll be at it FOREVER, no matter how organized you are. "

" BTW, my ex wanted the divorce as bad as I did and agreed to share an attorney, then took off to the UK and I had to learn from his co-workers that he left the states, I had to pay for the whole thing all on my own and I wasted 5 years wondering what to do. Don't make the mistake that I did, your life will be on hold. "

" kimmers...I did it on my own and I didn't have to go back at all. I filed all the court paperwork with a very detailed document on visitation, insurance coverage on the kids, where they would live, how we would file our taxes, etc. and the judge took it and said it was thought out and thanked us for putting the kids first. It sounds like you could have an amicible divorce but every case is different. Mine does not pay his child support but that would happen whether an attorney was involved or not. "

" Hi,

I did it all myself, found the papers online then went to the court and asked which ones I really needed. They were helpful. I never needed any legal advice and the on the court date, I was there for less than an hour, including filing for child support. it did help that my ex knew I was justified and agreed to everything.

If you can't afford a lawyer, try searching online for information. It's not as difficult as you may think.

Best of luck! "

" i did mine myself, it's signed sealed and delivered just waiting for the judge to sign the final decree, should be in about 3 weeks, as long as it's uncontested, no attorneys are needed.
