I talked with my atty today and he advised that it doesn't pay for me to start the ball rolling towards divorce or filing. One reason is the insurance. My H is a cop and has top insurance. He also said not to rock the boat as long as he is paying the money he said he would. I am just afraid he will file first, and I will not be able to handle that right now.

" I had my ex- on my insurance when she filed for divorce. I wasn't allowed to drop her until we divorced. The HR department at work advised me of that. "

" Sandy i know what you are saying, the reality can be brutal. However, putting off the inevitable with no legal protection is just foolish. Once a divorce is filed, nobody can buy sell or dispose of any assets, among other things. The man will be REQUIRED to insure his family. I have to be missing something here. We need more info from soccermom. "

" My atty did advise that he would have to keep me covered until the divorce is final, but he said it doesn't pay to set that in motion now. If he is not rocking the boat, then just stay status quo. I am not in any hurry. He has already taken his deferred comp which he has to pay back because I am entitled to half. He still has a pension. The problem is, we have more debt than assets due to his gambling. I just feel I am stuck and not moving forward, so I thought that was the way to go. "

" And a gambler. That wont get better. Cut your losses now. Owing 100,000 is better than 200,000. And hes with another woman? Buh bye. "

" Hello,
My wife filed for a divorce one year ago. In December she called it off and we are trying to work things out. In South Florida where I am things are really tricky when attorneys are involved. Can you talk to him about how you feel? Insurance is important but so is the money that will be spent by both of you using attorneys. I never knew my wife had gone twice to attorneys to file for a divorce until we were on a therapists couch in November. "

" So where were you David, while your wife was interviewing attorneys? I really want to know the answer to this as i did the same and my ex thought I was an idiot, who would accept the status quo. I'm very curious. "
