I always liked the song since the 60's. I was callenged by Geo's and other's remarks so I looked it up.
The song was originally named "69 Tears" but the band's record label made them rename it out of fear that it would spark controversy because of 69 being not only a number but also a sex position. The song has been covered by Aretha Franklin, Big Maybelle, The Modern Lovers, Utopia, Suicide, The Stranglers, Eddie And The Hot Rods, Primal Scream, Inspiral Carpets, Jimmy Lee of The Rolling Clones, Texas Tornados, Garland Jeffreys, Iggy Pop, Joe "King" Carrasco, Hedda Gabler (69 Tears appeared on their debut album Scratching F.U.C.K on the Windshield) and Inky. The original version is ranked #210 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Zoot -- WOW! That is some important info! I had no idea it was #210 on the Rolling Stone list! I actually heard it being played in the background in a bar scene on tonite's "The Wire" episode, and it really caught my ear, I hadn't heard it in a long, long time. Thx for the additional info!
