Not sure how to take this or what to do. Another DS member with whom I had never heard from before sent me a message telling her 'story' and asking for $$ to help pay for back rent and some other things. Anyone else experience this or similar happening? Would appreciate some input. Don't want to turn my back on someone in need but...

I saw a post like that the other day.....I would suggest they try out their local Red Cross or Salvation Army..............I am not going to send money to someone I don't know

Hate to say it but it sounds like a bit of a scam to me, especially if you don't know the person at all. Perhaps send a reply with information about places to get assistance from?

It violates ds tos...it is likely spam sent to many members, by someone who is not a true member....
You can report it, ignore it, or send them your bank account info.... :) Kidding on the bank account. It's a scam, Sweetie.

Many of us, including myself are in dire need of money, but I don't go around asking for it.. I sell stuff on ebay or my family helps me.. I would starve before I would ask a stranger for money, and I don't accept social services either, but those things are there for her is she is truly in need.. Please direct her there and report her to doug.. Don't give out any money to anyone.. It is known that we are vulnerable here and easy pickings if you are a scam artist.. You have a kind heart.. At the bottom of ever screen there is a button to report abuse. Next time some one hits you up for money turn them in. So not appropriate and its happened before.

i agree about not asking for help..but i would starve i wouldnt let my pride go before my children..if i hadnt known em wouldnt have done it..but i have to admit financially its ridiculous what stbx is doing out of guilt..that may change with time..ever heard the country song *what if they're a angel*..no skin off my teeth
