Hi. I'm new to this board. I was curious if there was anyone out there with a similar experience to mine. I was told, after seeing many specialist and having many test administered, that I incurred trauma to my brain as the result of an allergic reaction I had to an antibiotic back in December of 2004. Following the reaction to the antibiotic I had a severe ear infection that lead to me waking up one day with severe pain and pressure in my whole head which lead to 24/7 dizziness, vision problems, tinnitus and all sort of other weird symptoms in my head.
I was told that my injury and recovery is similar to that of someone involved in a traumatic injury like a car accident. My doctor said he has seen similar cases in people who have had menegitis or the flu too. Is there anyone that incurred a brain injury as the result of something other than a car accident or a blow to the head? I was also told most recover in a 2 - 5 year time frame. I am almost 3 years into this and becoming a little weary about ever feeling well again. My headaches and pressure over year 2 have improved a lot and I'm not dizzy 24/7 anymore. Dizziness comes and goes. My tinnitus is horrible and I always feel like I have a heavy head. I have some visual problems too. I becoming very depressed from all this as I'm sure most of you are too. Those of you that have been on this board awhile, have you seen people recover completely from a brain injury and do my symptoms sound like what some of you experience? Any replies are greatly appreciated. Best to all, DG Posted on 09/07/07, 05:09 pm |

I have a TBI, froma head injury, and it does take time. It took me 2 weeks to have the pressure releived but am left with daily headaches, occasional migraines and tinitus. I get some dizzy spells.

I suffered a serious TBI in 1988, I still get headache, I still suffer from short term memory loss, but I use memory tricks to help out a bit, I still walk with a slight noticable awkardness in my gait; BUT I am alive and very positive! I hang onto some negative consequences but I have gained many positives to make up for any loss!!

Many of the tbi survivors are from accidents. I had a blood vessel just up and break in my head. While the various causes are different the effects to our lives are what brings us here for each other.

I am in the same boat as happychi. Arteriovenous Malformation caused a stroke. I was told it would be six months from my last surgical procedure until I'd be back to normal. I'm still not yet and that was in March. On the outside, though, things appear to be okay but on the inside they're really not. Perhaps time really does heal all wounds...

You are not alone Dizzy. I have a TBI from a car accident as a child. I have to struggle daily to remember what to do. there is times that I would wake up with daily headache with pressure that it would make me feel lousy.

dizzy,
it sounds like to me you have some of the same symptoms i had with my hydro sefilus ( brain fluid overload) I ended up needing a shunt actually i had 1 shunt and 5 revisions but i ended up with a plural ventricular shunt. it has really helped with head aches and i never had the dizzyness but the heavy head thing was a common thing as well as feeling like i was wearing a hat that was too small
