Im almost 2 years post injury and have been able to hold onto the goal of returning to work for some time now.For that i am glad as goals are like thoughts and memories sometimes and they slipp away!
My injury put me in the severe class of TBI.
my question is, Has anyone gotten back into the workforce,if so was it the same line of work?I am after as much input as i can get on this issue as after 2 years of trying so hard I wonder If maybe I should be more worried about anger issues in myself ect....I am aware most of us will need to re train or learn a new line of work.who thinks work should be high on a goal list after all this?
thank you all for reading, speacial thanks to thoses with replies.
Happy new year and all that too all..

" i tried to return to my work, a truck driver. i was very good at it. i competed in safe driver contests, that is how well i was. i had difficulty with some vision and headaches. i couldn't pass a drug screen then or now. i have pretty much been 100% disabled. "

" It has been too soon to tell with me. Mine happened, I was told, in july of 2007. I would be concerened with the anger issues, as I have already found out they have a bad effect. You should have returning to work remain as a goal, but you should also look at what you can help fix within yourself, and keep that as a goal as well. You can read my journal to see that I have taken this VERY hard. "

" I don't know where you live, but when you feel you are ready, see if there is a state Vocational/Rehabiliative Services. I'm in SC and we have one here. They can help you get back into the work force wether its in your original field or a new one. If training is needed, they often cover those expenses. Its a wonderful agency. I'm not ready yet, but they will be the first call I make when the time comes. "

" I went back to work immediately after my TBI big mistake. Have been working ever since and have paid the price as well. I have submitted my two week notice yesterday and will be on disability. I can not function anymore as a teacher. I no longer hold on to the dream of returning to the work force in any feild because I did not give myself any recovery time. "

" My TBI was in 2002 and I (obviously) stopped working then. I haven't gone back to work since, although I've wanted to. I miss having my own money, having something to do, and having the camaraderie with co-workers. I am a college student, so I don't sit around and do nothing. ;-) I tried to go through Vocational Rehabilitation and get a part-time job last year, but Voc Rehab said with my disability (TBI and epilepsy) finding a job to accommodate would be difficult. So I just settle for being a student for now. This semester I have to a work-study to get my Social Work clinical hours to graduate. That's the closest to working I've been since my TBI. While I want to be like everyone else in society and contribute, I've long since realized I have limitations and have to work around those limitations. I do the best I can, and that's all anyone can ask. "

" OMG!we are so much alike!!! It will be 2 years for me also on the 24th. Also, my neurologist told me that I'm in the severe group too. Before the accident I worked at a Land Services company. I graduated from college in 2000, but I think I did lose some intelligence to go back to work. I don't think I can. "

" I have just recently came up on my 2 yr anniv of my TBI. I have actually came back to work a lil too early since I was always too tired and felt real weak doing the work and I eventually got fired, which was fine cuz I really didnt like the job I was workin for waste management. I then began school for physical therapy, taking 1 class the 1st semester. I also started working at the jobs I had before I had the TBI, but I am now doing a lesser role at these jobs. So now after two yrs I am now taking two classes in school and workin 3 part time jobs. But in these jobs I only work about 20-30 hrs weekly. So I'm trying to get back in there but I am just doing it slowly now hopefully this will work out. "

" Thank you all for you input and every one of you have helped me try to understand.sorry i should also let you all know, about 2 months back, i have to date worked one 34 hour week in an air-con ducting fuctory.I found it very hard to keep up and understand simple drawings .(I used to be a builder for mine site)re-train everything?i dont know.
that was way way too much for me,I still have constant head aches and anger probs ,insomnia ,the list goes on .was a very silly listake and i went back to being dizzy, unballanced and all that fun stuff.I was doing 8 to 9 hour days and was not eating taking meds correctly ,pretty much coming home sleeping on the lounge for 8 or so hours ,going to be if possible and it took me about a month to have all that settle down again.I hate that about a TBI,seems the whole way its 1 2 3 sometimes 4 , 5 steps back after trying to hard for that 1 step closer to a normal life ,one step closer to getting better.i am with CRS Australia ,for my vocational rehabilitation, but i still try to do things The old me way.
Thanks again "

" My husband just started working a temporary job. He is extremely happy to get hired but I can tell it is very difficult for him to put in 8 hours a day. The job is supposed to last for 2 months. I enjoy seeing him feel better about himself and I hope and pray he will be able to handle it for the duration of the project. "
