I totally understand... people do not understand and you are not doing it intentionally, thats what happens when you are brain injured... your brain controls everything.. and what you are explaining are sections of the parts that got injured. It's the new you... If you haven't been referred yet, you may want to ask your Dr. for a speech therapy referral - it's not what you think, speech helps with memory deficits and not necessarily on how you talk.
You may also want to join the stroke community, we have a lot of the same issues as the brain injured category.

I have fallen into deep clinical depression and have lost all interst in thing I used to love doing. My anger is uncontrolable not and I find nothing funny. Anytime some gets mad, I feel as though it is my fault. So yes, my mentality has done a 180.

I can also totally relate. I have a degree in history and political science and I no longer am interested in them. I am not interested in anything any more. I used to ride motorcylcles and now you can not get me to leave the house for anything. I do not know who I am any more either. I am told it is normal and that you do need to develop a new you but I also do not know how.

petitep said exactly what I was going to. Yes there are small changes and sometimes large personality changes. A good Neuro-Psych Doctor and Speech therapy is a must. It is unbeleivable what I have been able to get back.

same as all above i too have lost friends cant comunicate like i did before my injury , My anger makes me snap at almost anyone speacially males.
i cant tollerate stress and still dont have the thought process to not let fools get me down. i have almost no interest in the things i used to have interest in. The closer i get to the old me the more frustrated i get, its so hard to get used to any losses to have the same thing i thought Id never regain come back, it starts the whole ball rolling again and re learning all about whatever part is better / worese /lost for ever, ect. Yes we are all bound to change I think. how much and in what parts are all made up of what we are ,who we are ,and the people in our lives ,the ones that dropp off, the ones that try to help. the idiots. The good and the bad. i explain or at least try too buy calling my TBI a rolling ball that is forever changing soon as i think the shape is write ,boom ,off goes the ball rolling again, i try to take parts of the ball as i can ,some times it dropps sometimes it sticks to my new ball? that probly sounds strange and hard to picture. like wise it makes it so hard to talk about as well. I try to get back to my old self on an all day every day basis and it is working. that dont make it easyer at all, but i will continue to heal and get closer i wont give in to this TBI and any so called friends lost and in that any things i cant get back will be replaced by another. s for the things i used to like I still want them all , I have just lost the drive ist still taken up by all of the above.so The more i get closer to my old self the more i will want them, the more time i will have to make that a goal.the old you Is there it will take time to find and expect changes as i do. I hope this has helped you in some way. And nothing will make the change easyer. Daz

Hey, I don't know if my whole personality changed;(unfortunatly, I do have to rely on others for that) but some of it did. My morals are still the same (so 'they' say so) but part of my memory about one person is gone. I had a TBI and I didn't come to the realization that anything change about me until four months after. I do count my blessings, but I do know (somehow) that I've changed. I hope this helps a little, hugs to you. kim

Wow, I could totally relate to everything everyone has written to this post. Yhis is something I have been struggling with for years. I have found that over time I have sort of become the person I am now, but I also feel like there are a lot of holes in my self, my personality. I am really hopeful that with some help and therapy I can find some contentment with the life I am leading today.

i totally understand. i had brain injuries as a kid and then again over ten years ago. i'm not exactly as i was. what you do is adjust to the new you and people can take it or leave it. besides, people do change as they get older anyway and maybe the medical things our bodies go through IS a lot of the reason for the changes. it would make sense. we only have what we have to work with.
