Hi Everyone,
I am Ojewel. I was randomly assaulted when I was younger. I feel like I live between the sighted and non-sighted world. My problem is its not how clearly I see it is how my eyes function together..and they don't. After I was assaulted each eye works independently from the other so I oversee, or constantly see too much ie the first thing that moves around me. This was hard at first. A leaf would fall from a tree and I would crouch down thinking it looked like a brick. Or I would see the bus move on the other side of the street. Some things have been better though.I went back for my drivers license and was able to get in and aced the driving and parking. The sargeant said if I had moved an eighth of an inch or more I would have failed in the parking. Gas/petrol is a lot of money and my car needs work so I am relearning how to take the buses currently. They can lower or rise the bus to accomodate people between the curb and the bus. So, that's excellent. I have never made it through college bec. although the college claimed to help you it had to be cut and dry. You are either blind or your not. You either get services or you don't. I trained on white cane but ended up watching the cane go back and forth. I didn't get a guide dog bec. I know I wouldn't be able to let the dog take control. Besides how it look having a guide dog get out of my car? If someone opens a door or waves their hands when they speak I just freeze and let them finish what they were doing bec. I can't react that fast. I am joining your group bec. I have used some services that are helpful and I would like to learn from others on what helps or works. Thanks for reading long winded me! Welcome to our little community.
I had to giggle a little when reading your post, cause that is the way I see things. It always appears things are closer then they really are. I have gotten some funny looks cause when I see things coming at me, I back up. Once in the parking lot of a store, I was startled by what I thought was an animal coming at me, but it was just a paper towel. My eye doctor said my depth perception was bad cause my vision is different in both my eyes.

Thank-you for the welcome. I can totally relate to a white paper towel being an animal! Thanks for sharing that.

hey glad for you to share your story. and welcome. I too have trouble seeing and sometimes react funny towards certain things. Sometimes I have trouble recognizing family and friends. It eats me up but ay, it is something that I have to learn to accept and to deal with. I too did some college, I was pulling good grades but the strain on my eyes was very difficult since i would have to use a magnifier to read and write. Stay strong cuz despite our problems, I believe that we can achieve our success. which is true happiness

Oh wow I thought I was the only one that saw this way. The way I see things is so very strange and no one understands. My TV looks like a cup and a plate looks like a bowl and so on there is alot more to how I see. Alto of times it freaks me out and scares me to death. I can not get an eye dr to beleive me. They say if it is not in our text books it is not real. I am so glad there are others out here like me. I am legally blind. My vision lately has been getting very blurry.

I can relate! Just this week I was waiting for the bus, and I saw *something* move and I froze! Turned out it was only a frog hopping in the grass. Kids waiting for the bus thought I was hilarious, afraid of a frog. I can see big shadows in front, sudden movement from left side. Everything else - not so much. Glad I'm not the only one.
