I have a friend I visited last week and she said I wasnt BP (although the doctors say so and I have been on meds 30 years).

She said when her son was in Iraq she couldnt sleep either and meds didnt help and she ran on 2-3 hrs of sleep and had sleep deprivation.

she has a very perculiar mother and gets depressed from her (she says) and just thinks positive thots to get herself out of it.

shehas bad thoughts about herself (she says) but she just goes for a long walk or a manicure/pedicure and it cheers her right up.

What she doesnt understand or wont see is that BP have all this 100 fold.
these are pp who I want to give my meds too.

Just griping

" How frustrating! I'm always at a loss of what to say when confronted with people who think like that. Its almost like they are discounting the pain that comes with bipolar, making it something that a pedicure or shopping can cure. People don't understand that a pedicure isn't going to solve your chemical mixup in the brain. "

" grr @ them.
you know you've got it so that's what counts. i don't like it when ppl harp on like they've got worse problems that deserve more attention. sometimes they do but often they don't. "

" I got exasperated with someone who said something similar.

I felt like saying "ok, I'll stop the lithium tomorrow and let's see what happens".

It's more upsetting it's my mother. This was a few months ago. Last week I was telling her some of the suggestions from my pdoc. In a horrified voice she asked "what? you are going to not be taking anything?"

And I'm crazy inconsitent one. "

" I have an uncle (who is a surgeon & you'd think might have half a clue) who when I first got sick thought to tell me that 'depression doesn't exist'..That's a pretty bold statement lol "

" Oh, if only a pedicure would solve these problems *sigh* My new home would be the spa. It sounds exactly like what I invison my mother saying to me if I told her I was just diagnosed Bipolar. Come to think of it, it sounds like what I've been telling myself lol! "

" Norms just don't get it do they? Even the so called experts.

Shortly after I was dx BP I attempted suicide. A F*king good try too.
Pure chance that circumstances prevented me from dying.

Don't get me wrong. This is not one of those "I'm going to kill myself" replies. All this happened years ago and i have no intention of going there again.

What REALLY pissed me off was the attitude of some of the nurses.
All I got was, "You're selfish" or "These beds are for really ill people"

I mean WTF !!!!

At that time I WANTED to die, not to be sneered at or lectured by some fucktard nurses.

So I guess they reckoned I wasn't "I'll" !!!!

Normies piss me off big time.

Sorry, end of rant. "

" Ugh! I hate that. It is really hard to get people who know nothing about mental illness to understand what it is like to be BP. Of course everyone has ups and downs, ours range for the top of Everest to the depths of hell. It is biological thing - just like heart disease or anything else! "
