when I came in I saw a perscription of lithium on the counter with my name on it and the name of my previous doctor. I'm not seeing him anymore. That perscription was made at least, oh, I don't know, sometime last year? Maybe it was the beginning of this year.
When the doctor first percribed it they looked at the side effects, and already being biased against medication, they said no. But why did they have it out on the counter tonight? They SAID they picked it up when he first percribed it and decided not to use it and put it away somewhere. Well, how old does it have to be before it expires? And how long can a prescription wait at the pharmacy? But it's not ading up. And I don't know what purpose they have for lying to me about this. And also, the doc prescribed it months ago. My symptoms have changed. I want to see someone else. I don't think it's safe to take something that was prescribed to you by someone who didn't listen in the first place, months and months later. I don't get it though. Why would they lie to me about this? Posted on 07/23/08, 09:07 pm |

a witten perscription is only good for 6 months. one that is in the pharmacy is good for one year. look at the bottle it will say when it was filled and when it expires.

not yet. They will soon, I know.
I refused to eat dinner with them. I didn't even want to see their faces. I think I know. I think they're trying to get me to trust them, trust the ex doctor and get me to shut up and think i'm fine just cause i'm taking something. I guess they don't want to waste the money on me.

is it good even if you ignore it? Will it sit at the pharmacy if you refuse to take it in front of your doctor and tell him you'd rather try something else? If there was another prescription after that, a different one, wouldn't the first one have to be recalled or something?

a perscription is only allowed to be filled for 6 months then it is no good anymore. if you have a script in the pharmacy it is only good for one year. then you have to have another one wrote out.

I am not taking anything right now. I have been continiously asking my parents to find me a Pdoc. My mother and I agree, the last one was a jerk and didn't listen at all. But my Da, I guess he wants to save money or something? Won't switch Pdocs. They are trying to get me to take a perscription written a long time ago when my symptoms were different.

Did you offer any suggestions of what you thought you might need to take? Alot of mental illnesses are treated with the same meds. What do you think you need to take?

Well sounds like they(being your parents I suspect) have changed their mind about the side effects and figure it's ok now to take the medication or at least willing to try to see if it is effective for you. As for expiring....expiration of medication has to be on the label...so look for a date of expiration...it's there. What prompted your parents or motivated them to now all of sudden have you take the medication is unclear to me. Evidently, you have changed to another pdoc I would consult with them first before taking anything. In regards to the pharmacy, your parents either originally had it filled at the time it was prescribed and then subsequently decided not to start you on it and put it away, or they ask the pharmacy not to fill it and keep it on file. I am not sure your parents are lying as they might be just in denial of your illness and very wary of medications. Now maybe they have changed their minds. If they have changed their minds about getting you started on medication, then what medication would suit you best for your current circumstances would best be determined by your current pdoc.
