I believe in meds and talk therapy. My pdoc suggested DBT, based on cognitive, which excuse my language, I think is BS for BP. Has anyone tried DBT? What did you think?

" It's a year-long course that combines Zen teachings and cognitive. My moods are outside of my control, so I'm wary of therapy that says "go out and just cheer up" "

" I took DBT years ago and found it only to be a little bit helpful. That's when they thought I had borderline personality disorder which I didn't. "

" i LOVE dbt

I'm doing it for my Eating Disorder and BPD...it's really helping me with my dissociative symptoms.

I don't think it would be effective for Bipolar though... "

" After getting out of Inpatient last year, I attended DBT for 2.5 months. At first I was leary. But at the end of my stay, I was feeling more sure of my thought processes. They tought me no to initially react. But to process the situation and come up with the best solution to handle each problem. Slow down, look at the whole picture...then respond. There was art therapy, group, spiritual group,AA,and more than is coming to mind. My clinician is an LPN. She still had a monthly meeting w/me & handles my meds. I hope maybe this will help. "

" My daughter has Bipolar Disorder, and just finished a DBT program that was 3 days a week for 8 weeks. She was skeptical before she went, but after the first couple of days, she really liked it. By the time she finished, she loved her group and had done more real, useful work than she had in years of regular CBT. She learned skills to help break the negative, suicidal thought patterns she would "automatically" fall into before, as well as to help break the cycle of negative feelings about herself.

Its worth a try! "

" I'm doing it now. While I wouldn't say that all of aspects of it relates. Most of it is helpful. But I think you have to want to take it or it might not work. Take it when you're ready.
Ok?

Take care and be extra kind to yourself. "
