Group therapy

I know this is considered a form of group therapy, but I was wondering if anyone attends meetings like AA but for bp? Do they help? I am looking at this as an option, but not sure if it will help. I love being around people and being that I am usually manic and love to chat I thought it might be beneficial.

" I actually know of some. I even tried to go to one, got to the parking lot. But I am very sketched out by groups of people, especially if they espect me to say something. Really, I am guessing that it is better than this because there are tangible, living people right there where you can see them. I'm giving it another shot next saturday, you should try it to. Get some lists from your docs, or search online in your area. Hey, we could compare notes.... assuming I get out of the car next time. "

" I'd like to try group therapy. I'm finally living in a town that is actually big enough to have a group of us, so no more excuses. "

" DS is a wonderful place to get support, information, and a laugh or two, 24/7.

However, there is also nothing like a live suport group, where you can hear a person's voice, see their expressions, and get a warm hug.

here are a few websites that may help you find one.

www.mentalhealthamerica.net

www.healthcentral.com

www.findcounseling.com

This group is in many cities across America, and has many kinds of mental health support groups:

The National Institute of Mental Health:

" Hey J, isn't it something...the pill pushers rarely know anything about therapy and related stuff. My past pdocs have sometimes acted as if therapy was beneath him.

BP is complex. I think treating the entire person, from vitimins and exercise and sleep, to having a good time, to therapy and taking pills, all of these things are of value. "

" I agree. I have started to look at every aspect of my life that I can put into motion in a positive way to help me deal with my bp. Religion has been my next step, but I like to have all the details before jumping in. I have learned to be a little reserved with my actions because I start ALOT of things and usually never finish them or follow through with it. "

" It's kind of wierd, at least to me such it's such a large church 2/3 of a mile near my residence. But I went there looking for information for programs and they have none for BP, depression(or anything related), or alcohole.

I found that odd. "

" freeheeler, you are right about the pill pushers, but that is also a two - way steet. I had a psychologist I did therapy with for a couple of years while I was in school, and did not see ANY indication of BP in me...he did not want me to take meds, because it could "interfere with the therapy process."

In the meantime, I was stuck and not able to figure out I was BP, and also not my son, who killed himself.

Lots of people in my life have dropped the ball, and somehow, it is all my fault. "

" And Bigins, keep trying. It is not the size of the church, but rather, the focus of the church. Different ones have different focuses on the community.

Some are more politically active, some have more social connections, and some are more recovery oriented, etc. "
