I have known that animals have a sense for knowing when somebody is feeling down or upset but I have to tell you that when I lost my son my animals mainly my cat always seems to know when I need him to come and snuggle.
My cat garfield could be in another part of the house and if I am feeling down out of nowhere it's like he knows and will come sit by me and be all loving. I also know that my dogs where sad as well I could see it in thier eyes and they just laid around for a couple weeks looking sad and depressed. I am so very glad to have my pets or as I call them my other children.
They have helped me get throught this.
they never judge and they always want us to be happy. Thank god for them.

" When my husband died, our cat meowed for days, wandering around the house looking for him, and even trying to open all the cupboards to look for him - which was sad and funny at the same time. He was grieving too and trying to make sense of what was going on I guess. He has been a great comfort to me and the kids, and I don't mind the fact that he wants even more attention now than he used to, as it helps me. I know what you mean, I sometimes refer to him as "My Third Son." Yes, thank God for them. "

" I have had experiencs like yours; and more. When my father died (Feb.9, 2005), and my mom & I came home from the hospital, we could see that the cat (Midnight) was acting diffrently (depressed).
A year before my mom died (April 25, 2007)I/we got her a "bed buddy"from the Humane Society her name is Meow Mix (they named her; I did not have the heart to change it). When I came back to the apt., and days after...it was sad to see the cat's feelig so sad. At times they would sit at the front door, like they were waiting for her. They went through deppression just like me. The only thing is...they got though the depression before me.
The "extra" is that Meow Mix (and Midnight at times) "see" things. I keep my digital camera handy...when I see Meow Mix or Midnigh "looking" at something I take a picture. I have read that animals are able to see "spirits". I believe that Meow Mix see's,mostly, my mom.
**To whoever reads this I hope I don't sound strange*** "

" This past January, one of the men in our church with whom my 14 year old son was very close too , fell out of his hunting stand and passed away. My son was devasted by this. Our dog, Peanut,(never goes in my son's room ever, mainly because my son won't let him)went to my son's door and was whining to go in there. I let him in and he just jumped on the bed with him and just laid very still. He knew that my son was upset and crying. I really thought this was amazing!!! But yes, I really believe theey know a lot more than some of us give them. "

" We have 4 dogs and they were all Ronnie's dogs. When he died, the baby of the bunch looked as sad as us. She was his nursemaid for several nights before we took him to the hospital. And when I start my crying they are right there to lick my face as if telling me it is alright. They have always been considered our children from day 1. I agree thank God for our animals. Hugs, Pam "
