Which do you prefer to say when you or someone else is talking about the death of a loved one?

Some people have different ways of saying it, passed away is nicer but then the word death or died seems final,I just say lost. I've lost both my parents, and it is still hard at times. I take comfort to know they're now both together finally and no longer in any pain. If you want to talk I'll listen, keep talking.

Whatever works for you. I am now saying died most of the time cause for me I have come to the accptance stage of my sons death.

The comments are interesting....
To say 'death or died' is the reality, as is 'killed'... When someone loses a loved one to death, I am always careful to use 'passed' or something like that, because am never sure how the other person will react... When my sister 'died' on April 19, I wrote an email to family and friends titled 'Beverly passed away'.....the word death or died was just too hard so immediately after she 'crossed over' -- Interesting question....

I used to lay lost, but at a military base when you say that they automaticly think we got divorced. So now passed away is the term of choice.
