Another way to help align the spine is to put a pillow(s) between your knees when you're on your side. I was told by several therapists that this is important.
Have you tried warm milk or anything before bed? Perhaps a warm soaking in the tub would help relax you too. If worse comes to worse, ask your doctor for a sleep aid TEMPORARILY, to get you thru til your surgery. Between the pain and stress of waiting for the surgery, there's no doubt you can't sleep, bless your heart! Please keep us posted on how your surgery goes. God bless. Hugs, Lee

I agree with both the other comments I have had 7 surgeries I sleep on my left side as it makes breathing easier, I have a pillow between my knees one under my arm and a thin rone kinda of pushe/rolled behind my back I also take the prescription rozerem it is awesome it shut syour mind off you sleep like a baby and you not groggy in the morning, if they offer you Ambian run, Lunesta is also pretty good but you dont sleep as long. I also use lot of gel ice bags on my back. Hope this helps, best of luck.
Hugs& God bless Lisa

Sorry you're in such pain. I got a Serta memory foam bed topper and doubled it up so I'm sleeping on 4 inches of it. I can now sleep on my left side without severe pain in my shoulder. Just a thought

yes, I agree with others that pillows are a amazing....I cannot sleep on my side, only on my back, with pillows under both my legs - have got used to it over the years - but I also suspect you are really worried about the surgery. Try something to help - I use natural remedies, but the doctor also gives me just 16 muscle relaxants a month (no more because addictive) and this does help if worried and/or in pain. Good luck with this sweetie.....Cathrynn X

Thanks everyone,...maybe what I do need is some type of med to help me to get to sleep. Stress will make the pain worse too, and I didnt even think about that. Will talk to doc about it next time.
