im 20 years old and about 3 years ago on the job i injuried myself by pulling a pallet jack, with to much weight on the pallet. I pulled it wrong. Ever since then i have been in alot of pain in my lower back. The doctors say it was a pre existing condition and that i aggervated the area. I guess its my L5 on both side and i believe my L4 on both sides. I cant remember the name of what i have but basiclly i have fractures on those spots. I have had corisone shots i have tried phycial therapy twice the first time it made my pain worst and then i went again to another place and it started to go well but workers comp stopped approving it so i stopped going. I have been have problems with standing and walking and sitting and laying down and dancing, i cant do them for to long or just cant do them at all. I have returned to work since my injury with a 10 lbs weight resriction but just about a month ago my doctor raised it to 30 and he says it's perment. It crushes me that 30 lbs is all im going to be able to lift for the rest of my life. My doctor wont prescribe me any painkillers even though i tell him i have pain that is about 9 or 10 on a scale. They say i have no nerve damage, yet i keep having shooting pain down my leg sometimes both legs and now i am get a shooting pain from my lower back up my right side to my shoulder. No one can explain that. I just feel so lost it. It just seems like everyone has way worst back pain then me and that i shouldnt be complaining. I just have found myself being so depressed about this situation and just want someone to help me,or just talk to me i dont know where else to turn.......

i understand where you are coming from. I also have been having problems with all of my doctors not listening to me. I had back surgery in august of 2005 before i had the surgery i had the disc at L5-S1 crushing my nerve in my left leg. They removed that disc plus one at L4-S1. they didnt put anything in thier places so i have bones runbbing on bones. I have gotten a 2nd opinion and he said i would be in a wheelchair by the time i was 50. So im out to seek another opinion my doctor wont give me any stronger meds when i ask she just ignores me so im going to find a different doc that actually listens to me. There are some great people on ds and a lot of support. if you need to talk just send me a message im sorry for all the pain you are in. Take care ((hugs)) to you suzie

I looked into decompression therapy quite a bit and I urge caution to anyone considering it -- It's very expensive, not proven to help in the long term, and rarely if ever covered by insurance. I talked to numerous people online who HAD decompression and while most felt great immediately, after a few months they all felt as bad if not worse. A few people even had major issues with the treatment itself.

Surfdog was totally right!!!
GET IN A POOL !!!! It's saved my life, seriously! I never thought my back would feel this good. I have my moments at times but they are sooo few and far between. I'm in an actual aqua muscle class, which is good because then it's structured exercise in the water...and none of it hurt cuz you're in the water!!! Please try it!! Give yourself a few months of it... and let us know how it goes. I promise you'll feel an improvement!

With all the surgeries i've had, i experience pain just about all the time. This last surgery a couple of months ago took away the sciatic pain but the back is another issue. Lots of issues with fusions.
I agree when I get in a pool it takes all the pressure off my back. If I could I would live in one But when I get out I feel that same old pain. Tha just really makes me angry because it give me a glimpse of what my and how my life used to be Painfree! I try to walk at least a mile three times a week, yes it is painful but really clears my mind!

I believe that you are intitled to a second opinion, try going to a neurologist, one that does not work for workmans comp doctors and see what he says, and see if he can tell you of a pain management doctor as well. Starting here is a good start. There are some people here that can help. Good luck and please keep me informed.
Love, Kase

I finally found a pain management doctor who prescribes pain medication though not enough for the whole month so I have to skimp on some days. I know your pain I live with a 9 or 10 everyday without meds. With meds I still live with a 3- 4. I am on a 15lb lifetime weight lifting restriction for life so I feel you pain there too. Dont give up just keep searching and you will find the right doctor. Work comp in Ohio sucks and they took so long approving my surgery that my spine had to be chiseled apart to get the cage in between the spaces.

J,
Honestly, I'm not sure how an MRI & EMG differ, so I can't advise there, however if it's been a year+ since you had either one done, a new neurosurgeon will prob. request a new one. Just keep in mind that they're expensive, even with insurance. Mine was a few thousand dollars pre-insurance so know what you're getting into before hand. It's my understanding that an MRI won't necessarily show nerve damage (tho I could be wrong) but *will* show how badly discs are bulging/ruptured and whether they're pressing against nerves. It'll also show if you have degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, etc. Hope this helps! Keep us posted. :)
