Does anyone else see what is going on? Lately we have hear alot about autism, but not in a good way.. All negative, we have a mother kicked off a plane due to her child, we have a mom kicked out of a restaurant due to her child, and now we have this savage...

I dont see much good out of all this publicity, its going to hurt,, We as mothers are trying to get our children out there in soiety and we are being pushed back..

I dont mean to scare or sound really negative but I have a bad feeling, that our states will bring back institutions, Think about it, getting therapy for our kids is a fortune for us and our insurance, the schools are paying out a fortune to provide the education our kids need... I just think that for all work people have put into getting institutions closed is being pushed back as all this bad publicity the public is getting the wrong message about our kids disabitlity. And its gonna cause the public to not accept I already see it happening..

Its just something I was thinking I dont want to offend anyone,,,hugs

" i happen to agree. there seems to be a lot more negativity lately. All the negative publicity is not going to get people to understand our kids and what we go thru, it's going to harm us in a big way. "

" I agree. People getting kicked out of restaurnts and airplanes but I have another take on it. I think that as autism grows, the discrimination against autistic people (especially kids) is coming more into the public eye and no one likes to hear about a child being discriminated against. I agree though that the negative publicity does not do anything for public awareness.
If we can use these episodes, like the Michael Savage incident, to educate the public it would be good. Autism is on their mind right now and if we can combine that with education it will help.
Autism Speaks needs ratched up the ads and awareness. They are the ones with the money. "

" I was thinking the same thing today. wondering if people that don't know much about autism will listen to the creep that said all the negative stuff and believe it and our kids will be worse off than before. I hope it's not that way,I hope I am wrong but I am a little worried too "

" Agreeing with what everyone has said, and adding, lord help the fool who tries to bring back institutions, and place my daughter in one...

They've not seen fury like that of the parents of children with autism, when their children are threatened. We've gone through a great deal for our kids, and honestly, would have no issues with flooding the state houses of each individual state with people and pictures, to show them who they are hurting... " Well said murphy, not much I can add. Well said. Let's just say they do start recommending more institutions, hypothetically. There's no way my son will ever be in one. If he has to live with me the rest of his life, then so be it. We will have fun! "
