" The most common rescue inhalers are: Proair(Ivax), Proventil HFA-both of these contain Ethanol, a known toxin to some asthmatics-these are albuterol inhalers.
Then there is Ventolin HFA-albuterol-no ethanol.
Xopenex HFATM (levalbuterol tartrate)
Inhalation Aerosol-also contains ethanol(a known toxin to many asthmatics causing severe broncospasm)!
If you are experiencing adverse effects from the HFA formulations file a Medwatch complaint with the FDA.
The inhalers we used for years were CFC inhalers and they worked great. Any of you having problems should check with your Drs! "

" Depends where you come from what is most common.
In Australia the most common Reliever puffer(you call it Rescue inhaler) is "Ventolin".
Each puff contains 100 micrograms of
salbutamol and there are 200 puffs in
each puffer. It contains HFA-134a propellant with no other additives.
I still say CFC was better! "
