" hi,
there are different variaients of asthma and it presents itself differently in different people.
there is a tyoe of asthma whihc is called cough varient asthma where your main symtpom is a cough and you dont often wheeze etc. from what you ahve said this is probably the type of asthma you ahve however im not a dr so you may wnat to speak to your dr about it. i doint think at this stage you need to go all the way and ahve a chest scan etc as this is quite a big step. discuss with your dr and see what he/she thinks but i am pretty sure it is cough varient and therfore continue with yhour noirmal asthma meds.

" This does not sound normal. I grew up with a house full of asthmatics. We did have different types of asthma. In fact, I am the only person who has severe asthma as an adult. I am the only one who must take meds several times daily. My siblings do not take meds once daily.

If antibiotics are given most of the time, your resistance to the antibiotics will occur. Therefore you will need stronger antibiotics and your immune system will gradually lower. I experienced this personally.

Probiotics is a safer route. I was tested for TB, CF (cystic fibrosis), chest X-rays and allergy testing. Here’s the stupid part…. Most people do not receive a copy of the test results. Most people are not asked what plants grow in their yard or the neighboring area. If my parents had be informed of what I was allergic too, my life would have been very different. I because chronically ill after my bedroom was changed. The new bedroom was close to plants I have severe allergy responses. We had 3 birch trees around 15 feet from my new bedroom. I am very allergic to this tree.

I was so ill I had chronic green mucus and sometimes bleed in my lungs.

A scan sounds like a great idea and allergy tests would be wise. If you get the allergy tests, please make sure you get a copy of the results.

A vaporizer to help with moisture in you lungs. Drinking a lot of water is crucial so you do not become dehydrated. Be very couscous with humidifiers because they easily grow mold; this is dangerous.

I hope this helps you. "

" Well looks as though we all have different types and/or different opinions from the Dr's. I have read NO humidity!! Makes it worse and YES, a cough is Normal with Asthma. I just went back to the Dr yesterday and he told me that tempature varients are BAD..Cold to Hot = Severe Asthma in us. I take Singulair, Flovent, Albuterol and am going for allergy tests next Thursday. After that Dr explained the allergy shots to me. It is a way of " tricking " the immune system to fight hard at first then it realizes that it is being "dupped" so stops with the fighting and so the symptoms lighten up. Hope this helps as I just got up TRYING to rest but, coughing won't let me & today allergies are HORRIBLE..
With Hope
Ravin "

" Hi Raven,
Yeah, for some people humidity is a very bad idea and yet for others it's a great help. I know if I have too much then I'm in trouble. I'm generally too dry so humidity helps me a lot.

Each person just has to use trials to see what works for them.

High five. "

" I do have cough variant asthma. I almost never wheeze but I do cough severely when I encounter a trigger. On a few occasions I have coughed so hard that I blacked out.
In the beginning I doubted my diagnosis of asthma but I had a positive methacholine challenge test...and my symptoms improve significantly when I use my inhaler or nebulizer. Like you, I feel I have to use my rescue inhalers too much but I have to admit that I am much less sensitive than I was since I have been using my long term meds.(Advair 500/50, protonix, flonase, zyflo cr, and zyrtec.)
I have dealt with this situation for about 2 years. I see that you have dealt with it for 10 years. You have my sympathy.

BTW,are your ribs, neck and chest always sore due to the coughing? I know that mine are.

Be well,
Tom "

" I have Cough Variant Asthma, where I have many of the same symptoms that you are describing. I cough very violently, and without the right meds would probably cough all the time. I would talk to my dr. if i were you and ask about CVA. Using ur neb that often is not good, so u need to go in and talk to someone about that. "

" hey,
when using your neb you should ahve a strict protocol to followwith regard to taking it as it is high doses of meds which are goven through them. if you are needing you neb excessivly compared with normal then you should see a dr however if you are using it as you dr advised and are not needing it over the required amount then it should be ok. the number of nebs people need vary on the severity of their chest and the reversability of their airways so eveyrone is different.

if you ahve cough varient asthma yes you are lilly to ahve a sore chest and neck because of all the coughing it puts strain on your chest muscles therfore making them hurt..this is to say that a sore chest is not only for thse with cva.
