I have the opportunity to take my 2 1/2 year old to see a naturopathic or homeopathic doctor. She was diagnosed with JRA. She is currently taking naproxen. I am not sure if this is a wise or safe idea. Does anyone have any experience

" Oh I am so glad to have found your posting...I am brand new here tonight and hope you are still a member here. I have a 4 year old daughter who was diagnosed 2 years ago and I did take her to see two naturopaths and a few other "alternative" doctors. I can't tell you that it worked, but I can say I felt I had to do it to explore every option out there. There is not enough known about this terrible disease, and I feel it helps me to see other docs besides the western ones. They are more positive and have a lot of hope for me. That being said, I also have to warn that some do NOT have the experience to know if something will be helpful...There are some not so knowledgeable docs that could actually aggravate an autoimmune disorder. So my advice would be go see someone but don't start any treatments before checking them with a doc. My docs. at children's hospital seattle don't believe in naturopathic meds, but I made it clear to them this was something I wanted to pursue and then keep them in the loop if I find things I want to try and they will check them out to make sure they will be OK for my daughter.

I would love to talk more to see where you are at with this at this point, since it has been a few months since this posting.
I hope all is well, sincerely,
Nicole "

" I wish I would have seen this post earlier. I have a son who is now 3 years old. He was diagnosed with JRA before he turned 2 years old. They started him on Naproxen and not too much longer after that they had to give him some other type of medication...sorry I can't remember the name...to help with stomach issues he was having due to the side effects of Naproxen. At that time my husband and I decided we needed to explore other options for him and we were both feeling that just taking things to mask the symptoms wasn't enough and that we wanted to treat it to go away not just hide the swelling and pain.

We did a lot of research online to explore other options. 2 of them were Chiropractic care and naturopathic medicine. We were not willing to take him off Naproxin completley right away until we could see a difference. The Naturopathic Doctor he saw put him on Rhus Tox. I think after him being on it 3 weeks we lowered his dose of Naproxen. You could see no difference. So we knew the Rhus Tox was working.

Sorry this is long. I can give you more infomration if you want just send me a message or add a comment. Now my son is 3 years old and completley off Naproxen and Rhus Tox. He still gets Chiropractic care every 2 weeks.

In my opinion it is our job as parents to explore every option we can for our children, not just do what our doctors tell us to. Especially if we aren't comfortable with it. "
