MTX -- can it cause a flare in symptoms?

I've been taking Celebrex for a couple of months now and it has stopped my frequently swelling knee, causing the symptoms to almost completely go away.

I'm now on week 2 of MTX and I've seen a flare, each week, of the inflammation and pain in my knee.

I thought maybe the drug was causing the flares as it goes after my psoriatic arthritis and tries to run it out of town...haha.

Coincidence or related to MTX? Has this happened to anyone else with this or a similar drug?

" I thought with MTX, as it is in my system, the problem areas will flare up as they are being "hit" so to speak, sort of a last horrah before they go away.

I heard back from my rheumy and was told, "no" it doesn't flare up before taking effect and it's probably a coincidence. Once I hit the 4-6 week point, if it doesn't clear up, they may up the dose. Yuck! "

" HI, I have been on MTX for 3 months now. I think it helps the flares; each week gets a little better and with fewer side effects. Now I have no more nausea and the flares are less as I get to the end of the week. I also have more energy! I did catch a bad cold right after I began taking it....My Dr. agreed to let me lower the dose beginning this week, I take 4 pills @ 2.5 mg ea instead of 5 pills. Anxious to see how that works, the less I take the better. Also I get a blood test every six weeks. Dr. says I can look forward to this for the rest of my life unless I want all the symptoms to come back...... "

" Just hearing that the side effects get better each week is great.

My only side effect is the overwhelming fatigue that knocks me flat the following day, then two days later. "
