New here...hands/feet ache & I'm only 36!

I am an otherwise fit, healthy, active 36 year old of a 5 month old baby boy. For about 1 month now I've had so much aching in my feet and hands equally on both sides. The thought of twisting off a jar lid or using a fork to cut my food is painful. I do not have any swelling, redness, rash, or any other symptoms that I can think of. I started taking ibuprofen 600 mg about once a day and I can't really say that it helps. I am hoping it is just related to new mom hormones but that would be too easy. I was also hoping this would have passed by now. I am getting worried that it has lingered for over a month. I notice my hands and feet even when just sitting. I switched to wearing shoes with better support, even just around the house. I'm worried that I may have early stages of rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia or even lupus. Any input?

Get a Doctor's opinion, he will do bloodwork and examine your feet and hands, it could be something as minor as a neuralgia and will go away eventually. But it is wise to ask the doctor. I developed fibromyalgia after my last pregnacy, but I already had RA since I was 16. It was no surprise.

I can tell you from my experience I waited to see a Dr. until the pain became too much too bear.I'm not versed in alot of health issue's but I can say have never heard of hormone's from being a new Mom causing pain.Your body is talking to you and the pain your feeling is a sign that something isn't right/pain for no apparent reason isn't normal.I wished I had got help sooner I waited thinking it was just normal pain from wear and tear and from getting in and out of a lowered sports car.Symptoms are different for everyone.Just to be on the safe side you should be seen and have blood work done and x-rays to rule out RA and lupus.
I was dx 2 yrs after my symptoms started.I tested positive for RA factor but not everybody does but when you said you had pain on equal sides and in both hands and feet that could possibly be early signs of RA because RA pain is almost always symetrical and that's one of the things they use to determine the type of arthritis you have. Also in the blood work if your sedimentation rate is elevated this is also an idication of RA-Not trying to worry you just inform you would strongly urge you to get a Dr's opinion because the longer you wait and if it turned out to be RA joints could be damaged permanently in as little as 6 mos.Esp if you have a small infant you will feel alot worse if it does turn out you have RA and you let it go untreated.Hope this has helped-Cookie

Same age, having similar problems. Know your pain. Seen Dr today and he's ordered a blood test for arthritis. He's also put me on Mobic, but I won't be able to get it till next week sometime. Here if you need to talk.

Don't panic. Do see your doctor. My feet and hands started aching when I was in my late forties. I was absolutely sure I had Rheumatoid Arthritis. Turned out I have a hereditary form of Osteoarthritis that affects the hands and feet and tends to start much earlier in life than normal. I take a prescription anti-inflamatory that helps a lot.

i know what its like to care for a abby feeling this way. sorry you have to go through it. i've had osteoarthritis since age 10, but all the other symptoms, the bad ones, began 3 months after my second child. see a doctor just to be sure and take care.
