Hi all,

I am new to this forum - so hello :)

I live in Sydney in Australia, and suffer from PA. Have had it for approx 4 years. It was firstly in my left knee (which I had a synovectomy for), and has since spread to my right ankle, right arm and shoulder. Its also affected my finger nails quite badly and I do get small patches on my skin.

I'm currently on 20mg of methodrexate a week (pills) and 10mg of Arava a day. None of these are helping me - and the side effects are shockers as well (inc. migranes which I have never had before!). Here in Australia, the Govt makes it SO hard to get onto the 'real' PA drugs such as Enbrel or Humira. I am hoping to be approved for Humira very soon, as I have four major joints affected and my CRP levels are currently at 44 - so in the Govts eyes - I now 'qualify'...otherwise under our health system I would have to pay $800 a week for the injections.

I'd just like to know who else on here suffers from PA and how they handle it and what works.

I do a lot of water exercise (aqua aerobics 3 times a week) and when my knee is not too bad, will walk 20-30mins a day. I take all sorts of supplements, and do physio and acupunture to try and keep everything in balance.

Find it SO frustrating though, as the more I try, the more I seem to go backwards and find it very disheartening.

Look forward to meeting/hearing from some of you soon :)

Meags :)

" by the way i did lose my fingernails and toe nails . (They lifted up from the pustular condition under the nails. The prednisone and the Enbrel brought them back after several months. And stopped the blisters on my hand and feet. Humira did not work but insurance wise it may have to be first. "

" Thank you so much scissorladi for your feedback - really appreciate it. I am very worried about my nails at the moment (esp both thumbs) as they are extremely sore, and the P is really working its way down the nails. Its just so frustrating as before I can get onto either Enbrel or Humira, I STILL have to pass so many requirements. My spec tries to help out where he can....but just becomes so frustrating!!! "
