Iam 44 yrs old i have RA,OA,DDD,DJD,PINCHED NERVES IN BACK ,SPINIAL SPURRING, AND OVERWIEHGT,
I understanding being over weight is't helping me but been this way since childhood, My pain dr,just dismissed me because in his words i wasn't helping myself even after taking all his treatments except 1 nerve buring? Iam in constent pain. and believe me i dont like pain meds!! Ive had reactions to alot of meds, i was seeing a rheuo. and took 2 meds he gave me had reaction to both, anti-inflamtories- had reaction from so many they won't give me anymore their afriad. The pain dr was giving me vicidon10/660 took 2-3 daily for 1 1/2 yrs with it help me be more moblie, the dr, told me i wasn't lossing weight, or excerising ( which he told me i shouldn't do?) Now he dismissed me and i don't know where to go from here? to my suprise this dr never weihged me and my pcp told me i lost 10 lbs. HELP Posted on 04/27/08, 02:04 pm |

I think you need to find an understanding doctor who can help you deal both emotionally and physically with your pain. What about physcial theraphy? Can you walk? If so just walking can help you get those joints moving and help you on the road to becoming more fit. I suffer from RA and I excercise 5 days a week. I push myself and some days it wipes me out, but I do it to keep my joints oiled and as healthy and strong as I can make them. I wish you luck. I can tell you living on vicodine is not the answer. thank you for your help i went from not being able to walk to being able to get around very small stores but have to take my time,and also went from not being able to stuff around the house to being able to one room every 2 days so thank you agian

Your PCP should be able to help you with the next step. That's why he is your primary. He is the one to coordinate your care. I'd think a neuro-surgeon should be addressing your pinched nerves and spinal spurring. Rheumatology should be covering your arthritis issues. There are other meds other than anti-inflammatories. Hang in there.

I was diagnosed a month ago and i didnt know what ra was til my pulmonologist found it my pcp didnt have a clue and was treating me for all the wrong things and now it has affected my lungs and vocal chords so go for a second opinion i did.

I hate to be one of those people that say yes, diet and exercise will help. I know, I know, it is hard but building slowly will help you feel better. I too am overweight with Osteo in my knees for the past 31 years. As you can guess there is nothing left but bone... Yes, I am in pain constantly BUT, Because I have begun to exercise it isn't as bad as it could be. Because I have built up the muscles around the joints. The trick is to find something you can do without causing yourself more pain.
I do aqua aerobics. My gym also has a aqua aerobics for people suffering from arthritis. It has helped tons. I have worked up to 4 times a week. I now also take yoga 3 times a week. My Dr says that aqua aerobics is a fantastic exercise for arthritis. It is very low impact and depending on how hard you work can be a good cardio workout. I have been exercising for 5 months now. I feel much better. The great thing is I have lost 25 pounds. It is worth a try. Just start slowly.
