Hi...welcome...I have a tumor in my knee since 27 years old and now at 45 have been told I have significant athritis. Thanks to the tumor eating away at the bone. But nonetheless, it is there. So dealing with it is key. I too look to find others who are worse off than me. It is a wonderful coping method. I wish there were more I could do to help you but I am here to support you how I can.

Hi aussieshi,
I was burdened with chronic back pain for 12 years and was diagnosed in November, 1995 with spinal stenosis, spinal scoliosis, osteoarthritis along with other spinal problems. I was forced to medically retire from my teaching career because I could not perform simple tasks on a daily basis. I was often bedridden due to severe crippling pain. I was devastated because I was forced to give up a career that I dearly loved at the age of thirty-five. Many bouts of depression ensued for years, but I found much support in sites like this. There is good advice here and treatments that you maybe have not heard of. Checkout profiles for treats that work and for ones that did not. I have found that you have to find the treatment that works for you, if it be natural or pharma.

aussie,
I was diagnosed during my second pregnancy. RA for me was slow moving so it was easy to ignore until I could not ski without pain. I do not like meds or doctors. I learned in my travels that there are successful treatments used in other countries (without the pharmaceutical lobby that we have here in the U.S). I started Ambrotose (the 8 essential glyconutrients) in August 2005 and by November of that year, I could ski without pain. Within 10 months my bone spurs were gone. I still have joint sensitivity if I bump into something but besides that NO PAIN...unless I forget to take my daily nutrients. It is amazing to me that the body can heal itself and more often than not does without intervention. Glyconutrients were discovered in the late 80's and since they are natural and difficult to synthesize Drug Companies have no incentive to educate your doctor about them. They are not specific to a disease state, they simply help your body to do what it does best...heal itself. My dad beat his diabetes rap with them too...after his diagnosis in October he started on them and by April they took him off his meds. Good luck and glad you joined us!
