Hi. I've been having a terrible streak of insomnia. I've taken sleeping pills, done the yoga routine, exericed, showered, anything to help me relax before bed. None of it seems tp be working. This has been going on for a week now. Any suggestion??? Any one else out there who can commisertate? Thanks. Just needed to vent a bit. I'm going nuts. I'm tired. Yet whne I lay down, sleep doesn't come. What is up with that? What knocks YOU out when you can't sleep>

Do you think xanax will help with the sleeping?I take xanax .5mg twice a day as needed. I am currenlty out and will need to get a refill next week. I find the xnanx to have a very mild effect on me, but it doesn't really make me sleepy. Maybe I should talk to the nurse about upping my dose? Because really when I take it it doesn't seem to work as well as I think it should. What are you thoughts on this? and on the trazodone as well? thanks.

I have been having the same problem about every other night or so, sometimes two or three nights in a row. I'm not on meds so if I know I need my sleep to get up the next day, I take a couple of tylenol PMs but sometimes the anxiety is overwhelming and even that does nothing. What almost always works for me is doing something I enjoy or relaxes me, like reading, or watching something funny on tv or online (or something boring). I slept for a couple of hours last night but was up around 230am. I won't go back to sleep now. It is frustrating.

I've had terrible insomnia for a while now. The sleeping pills stopped working for me when my anxiety kicked in. My problem was waking up in the middle of the night and thinking about issues going on in my life or things I had to do.
I've had 2 good nights of sleep in a row now. It's because I've done most of the tasks that were on my mind. I'm taking the steps to achieve my goals. And I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck to you. Keep working at it.

You are NOT alone! I have a hard time getting sleep. I take Xanax right before bed. I usually read for a little bit to distract my mind. I also tell myself right after I turn off the light "Surrender, let go, go to sleep". This little selftalk seems to stop my mind long enough for my body to relax and drift off. Give it a try, hope it helps.

Hi KS. Ugh! That is a terrible problem to have. When my anxiety was really bad a few years back I literally couldn't get more than a half night's sleep for weeks. I'd have panic attacks right before bedtime like clockwork.
It's better now but I still have mornings where I wake up feeling like I was ran over by a truck in my sleep. (i.e. headaches, clenched jaw, the feeling I of not being rested, etc.) On top of all that I had an allergy problem that was making sleep difficult but I seem to have that under control. My suggestion to you is keep doing the things you are doing to relax. Try to distract yourself an hour or so before bed with TV, music or reading so you're not obsessing on the insomnia problem. Keep the a/c turned on at night so the humid weather doesn't bother you. Good luck. :-)

I have anxiety that only seems to surface when it's time to go to sleep. I just started on Lexapro to combat the anxiety. So far, nuthin. I take 1 to 2mg of Ativan before bed. It seems to do the trick. Before I got the Ativan script, I thought I was going to die if I didn't get some sleep. Each night of not sleeping seems to make the next night of sleep even more impossible and scary. Also, sleeping pills do nothing for me. My mind fights right through them.

i'd try maybe some calming music, nothing thats going to amp you up. otherwise cut out as much stimuli as you can, and eventually you'll go to sleep. try meditating a little relaxing yourself from head to toe mentally. if you find yourself worrying about stuff, try writing it down or thinking it all the way through, if you find some kind of conclusion chances are your mind will be more at ease and you'll find it easier to sleep.
