The other day, I wasn't feeling great and my anxiety was getting into high gear, but I had to go to work. I very much wanted to call out, but my bf said I should go in. I pulled into the parking lot, sat in my car, thinking of excuses to call out on such short notice. I knew I couldn't do that. So I said to myself "just do it. Just go". I walked up to the door, but paused a few feet back wanting to run away. Wanting to cry. I did not want to go in. My anxiety level was at about a 6 (out of ten). I didn't knwo how I was going to get through the next 5 hours. I took a Xanax, took a deep breath and walked in. Anxiety getting worse. I told myself, that if I needed to leave, I would just have to-even if that meant getting fired.
I told my manager that I wasn't feeling good and about my anxiety. A co-worker overheard, and said "I have anxiety/PAs too!" She explained her story briefly. It felt so good to have someone who really knew how I felt right then! She helped me breathe, and talked to me. I finally started feeling better and by the end of my shift I was fine.
She was such a comfort. So I guess the moral of the story is to just try to get through it, be honest about it, and you may just find a new comfort person too!

" Lucky you...I had to quit my job a couple of months ago because i i got chewed up and humiliated by my manager because i felt faint once and had to go to the break room to drink some water.
If i was honest it would be even worse believe me.
So it depends on where you work.
I actually was watching some show on anxiety recently i think it was tru life on mtv...but anyways they showed this girl that got kicked out of some skating(i think it was skating) class because her trainer found out about her anxiety.
So it depends ...some people think that anxiety = insanity so i try to keep my anxiety to myself. "

" some ppl think anxiety = weakness, and they have not yet come to terms with their own weaknesses, they hide them far far from sight, or so they think. "

" That is excellent. I definitely found it helpful to let people know if I'm panicky. Its another reason that those who have anxiety or PA's be open about it. You never know who you're going to help, or who is there to help you.

Good job Sophie "

" I love stories like that. Unfortunately I do think there are more people who are ignorant than helpful, but when you find the helpful ones, it's a bright spot.

And good job doing the hard thing and going in. You should be proud. It's all part of the recovery. "

" Panic Attacks are about 20 minutes...but they take you to a whole new place. I walk around and take my Xanax, with out my Xanax I don't think I would have made it this far.

I once was afraid to go into work. I even called my director crying hytericly (so?)...but I thought about going to the ER..then what would I say...sorry for you guys in here that need stiches but I have an issue. I drove around for 15 minutes and felt better.

I find that if I think about walking in, going in the elevator and getting to my desk ithelps to visulize what will happen. Always works for me.

I hope I have helped "

" Good For You! I am glad to hear these kind of results. I hope your boss understands. I lost a job of eight years due to anxiety and depression. This job and my co-workers were a second family to me. That was a hard time for me but they didn't understand my situation. Congratulations ! "

" I'm so sorry Poor. That's actually happened to me before. My old boss just didn't get it.
Peopl can be so closed-minded. Something they don't understand-liek a mental health issue-must mean weakness, craziness, etc. It can be frustrating.
I've also found that trying to visualize what will happen when I walk in can help. although, my mind usually runs away from me and I get all of these awful 'visions'.
I actually had a hard time today at work. I really thought about saying I neeed to go home asap! But I did my best to distract myself and before I knew it, that anxious feeling had decreased.
Hang in there everyone. This can be SO hard to deal with. "
