" I used to be very panicked about driving ANYWHERE!.
The job i have now, i have to drive to alot of different places and in rain or dark which both frightened me very much but somewhere along the line i realized i could do it.
Im quite comfy driving in surrounding areas now but must say i diont like faraway but i still make my self do it. "

" The things that have helped me the most to drive with less anxiety is to just get out there and do it and know that if I want to pull over I can. Also, I remind myself that although I have had dozens of anxiety attacks and felt like something horrible was going to happen, not one time has it happened. This hasn't solved the problem 100%, but it has helped. I just read Lucinda Bassett's book, 'From Panic to Power' and it was insightful. If you don't know who she is, she runs the Midwest Center for Stress & Anxiety in OH or IL. Does anyone else have any suggestions for other good books about dealing with anxiety/panic? "

" I feel the same way, I get all nervous and dizzy when I am driving. I think it's because I am far from my comfort zone, which is my house. "

" I like to listen to a relaxing cd in the car, nothing to put me to sleep, but something very soothing without words. I started by driving around the block and have gotten much better. I still won't go to far from my house though. "

" I used to have big time panic whenever I had to go anyplace unfamiliar. The best thing I ever did was buy this Garvin GPS system. I got the best price on-line at CostCo. It works really well. I don't fear being lost anymore. It has a go home button and that will immediately give you directions step by step on how to get there. I live in a large metropolitan area and I am still fairly new here, but the GPS helped alot. "

" I have a problem in heavy traffic and on bridges. It has effected me off and on over the years. At this point in time my husband is doing all the driving. I walk to work since my office is only two blocks away.

After seeing all your responses I think I am ready to give it a shot again. Thank you for the website info Slippy1 I will definitely check into that. "
