Persistent CHEST PAIN!
Watch this
View More Posts
I have been dealing with persisten chest pain for more than five years now. Tonight, and for the last few days, it has been really really bad (again.)

I have been checked out for heart, all the way to a cath, and every other major problem feasible to my 'team' of doctors. Nodda.

So, I went to Iowa City Hospital and consulted with a specialist. He said he felt is was a MYO-FACIAL SYNDROME, more than likely brought on by sever anxiety and stress, coupled with nicotine and caffine intake. Ok.

Does anyone, or has anyone ever experienced something like this??

It's like someone is sitting on my chest; if I probe a little bit with my fingers, I can find all sorts of sore points (e.r.'s always release me with Costrochondritis... I hate that); it is worse when I smoke more; it subsides if I take large doses of xanax. Vicodin and Darvocet barely touch the pain... hell, I even have some morphine. That does work, but I don't feel like being in loo-loo land for the rest of my life.

SO, is the doctor off, I am needlessly suffering, can anyone relate to this. It is so awefull, it is driving me nuts.

" I've got persistent and constant chest pain lately in last 3 weeks. It's not very painful, but sore, dull sore, and sometimes really sore. It usually occurs around my upper chest near armpit. It's off and on. And it moves between my chest and back. Sometimes I feel it on both back and chest. I can usually suck it up. When it's really sore, I'd take a Xanax. "

" My chest discomfort (pain, soreness, palps) started at end of the last September. From Oct to Dec, I've had all kinds of medical tests:
- Chest X-Ray
- Chest CT
- 24hr monitor [once]
- Stress test
- EKG
- Heart ultrasound
- Nuclear heart imaging
- Venogram on left upper body
- Gastroscopy

All of tests came out ok.

But the chest discomfort problem is still lingering, off and on. Lately, it's been worse and more frequent than the past.

It's said that this is the symptoms of anxiety disorder. But for me, it's like the other way around. I seem to feel anxious and worried only when I have chest discomfort.

It's so weird and confusing... "

" I only get chest pain when having anxiety but have heard of people with anxiety having marital valve prolasp, i know there is some connection between this and anxiety.
Im sorry you have such a difficult time with your chest pain, i know being in pain is very unpleasant, im sorry.
I wonder if a hot water bottle along with your pain pills might help sooth it a bit, hot water bottles when im in pain are a great soother.
Good Luck to you, i hope you have some pain free days.
Take Care! x "

" Landed in the hospital last night again for this; it's going to kill me unless they figure this out; the pain is out of this world!

Now the pain is runnnig up my neck and that is even worse that the chest pain, and I have what feels like TMJ. 30mg's Tordol barely touched it.

Can Lamictal make things like that worse, or Wellbutrin????

Rozerem, I dont think is the culprit. Anyone? "

" Chelle, I'm on day two of not smoking; I think there is a link there - let's hope.

DogCrazy, my heart keeps checking out fine, and I have had every test possible... and I only take warm-hot baths anymore to sooth my chest, and I use ice alternating, as well as Biofreeze. It marginally helps, but any other ideas guys? "

" Hi Paragon,

I'm from Illinois also.

Well you definitely went to the right hosptial (Iowa City). I know years ago when I had struggled with anxiety, I use to get a lot of pain in my chest. In fact, I think I got diagnosed with Pluracy (sp)..VERY painful ! Hurt to breath, etc.... however I didn't have any pain in my neck.

I hope you feel better soon and do what you need to do and demand they find out the problem. That's what we pay these Dr.'s for... could be a disk in your back also... keep that in mind. "
