Hello, I have bad anxiety and separation anxiety issues. This is the first time I have heard of Xanax. I have tried prozac but it only helped a little. My question is it work asking my doctor to go on Xanax?

What are the benefits?? Has it really helped anyone? How long does it take to kick in? Weeks? Months? Instantly?

Any help would be SO appreciated!

" I had xanax some years ago. It's great stuff. works in about 15 minutes. When I was really tense and anxious with my whole digestive system tied in knots it made me relax and feel calm. The main problem is that it can be habit forming. So I only took it when I really needed it. "

" DON'T GO THERE! Unless you want to be addicted for the rest of your life. It's a benzo and you can't even get pregnant on benzos. They are short term relief but long term addiction even if your intention was to take them to relieve anxiety and just follow doc's orders. I've been on benzos for 14 years and am tapering off. I want to have a baby before I'm 40, well I've got 5 more years and it can take an eternity to taper off.
Don't get into a daily habit, it's not worth it. You just have to keep upping your dose to relieve your anxiety. Exercise, yoga, meditate, pray but do not go on these things. EVIL stuff. "

" The Dr gave me 25mg of Xanax and have been afraid to take it but yesterday I had a horrible attack and still feeling it this morning. I went into my medicine cabinet and pulled out my PX and cut the tablet in half and took it. I needed something to calm me down. I took it about 5 mins ago so I will let you know how it does in calming me down. At this point I am willing to try anything. "

" I was on xnax for about 3 years but i took it on as needed basis. Now i am on valuim. It works much better for me.Talk to you doc about the difference. The reason i stop taking the xanx is for 2 reasons it wasn;t working that well i wanted something to last all day and not just at that monent.Plus every time i took a high dose the ringing in my ear would go up and that is why i was on the xanx in the first place. Valuim doesnt make my ringing go up.It helps me cope with my illness. Iam not happy i am on it but i have no choice.Talk to your doc. "

" Thank you all, I will def take everything said into consideration. At this point I'm totally turned off of it. So I will just try to conquer my fears and deal with it some other way. THANK YOU AGAIN for your responses, otherwise I'm pretty sure I would have rushed to the doctor and got a prescription for it! "
