Sometimes I'm astounded by the number of people who try to fight alcoholism, handle a crisis in faith, or try find God ALL ALONE. I've been guilty of this too, so I know the mindset.

I am ANTI-SOCIAL after work is over, but I've still found that connecting with groups to build up our faith or for support is essential.

I think this is a key ingredient of AA - support and fellowship - and I don't even go to AA.

I do attend church for support and fellowship in my faith. I don't agree 100% with everything my church preaches, but I agree with the basics- and that's good enough.

My point is that although you will never find a group that agrees with 100% of your personal beliefs, you still need to be part of a group for growth and support. It's so easy to stay at home these days, with a computer and a phone, but very little face-to-face interaction with others. To those of you who have no fellowship with others- please- go out and connect. You may have differences, but you'll be amazed at how much you have in common.

" So, So true.. My problem is dealing with people outside of the AA fellowship.

BTW, that is just the fellowship that I live in.

Whatever solution you have been graced through, is awesome. "

" Jacker... I to agree whole heartedly. The opportunity for growth and support is wonderful as offered in places like this (DS) but true accountability can only be found with the face to face meeting of people who understand. The abiity to see body language, voice inflecton and just be able to look sommeone in the eye is lost here. We by nature want to stay hidden... to be able to stay behind the pc screen or alone in ones house invites that cunning baffling and powrful beast to remain in control. Family? They have no clue or are seen as manipulative and controlling. Friends? Unknowingly the chief enablers. only others that have walked the same road can see the dirt... the shit we have picked up as we walk. The great thing is they will help us clean it up too. There are many support groups out there. AA is the most accessible but not the only one. "

" I agree, that's why I went to that AA meeting in Frbruary where I was TOLD, I didn't belong.
Went to Church for 12 weks with my landlord and the speaking in tongues CREEPED me out.
Tried a litle Church up the road from here 4 times.
I guess it's ME that just doesn't fit into any kind of group.
But when it's your DAD tells you your whole life you don't belong, it's hard NOT to believe someone that is supposed to believe in you. :(
STILL searching....... "

" 4mytasha- I think we ended up at a church where we agree with about 70% of it - that's good enough for now. The teaching is good, the music is aweful, but the people are fun to be around. I know it's not easy though. "

" Hmmmmm.....mine, the sermon was great (I could underSTAND it! :) the music was AWESOME but, it was the people.
NO, it was me WITH the people.
They were there with open arms for me but I didn't "believe" those open arms were genuine.
I'm never good enough.....

THAT'S what I need to work on. "

" Thank you for posting this Jacker. By nature I am a huge isolator, I've had to work on that quite a bit and still, left to my own devices I tend to isolate. For example, I had pulled away from the rooms gradually, and I became a dry drunk (I know that is a sensitive term around here, but I could call myself that). I saw the difference in myself without the fellowship and the program. In early 2007 I found a new home group and I've been going to at least that meeting every week. Then we finally after months of talking about it went back to our church last week; and we were welcomed back with open arms. This time instead of standing behind the sidelines we got involved; our kids are signed up for Sunday school and we donated our time on Thursday when pumpkins were delivered (our church sells them every year), we helped unload the truck.

Like Jacker said, we might not agree 100% with the teachings of that church, but in this religion it's OK to disagree; one of the reasons we chose this church in the first place. "

" I know what you mean, we can't expect to agree with everything in a larger group to join in. I think that is a great point, I have a tendency to see the differences rather than the similarities, and that is something I conciously try and not do these days with others. We are all connected, and I think, in search of the same things in the end..... "

" I DON'T GO TO THE DRS TO GET MY LAWNMOWER FIXED!

IF YOUR GONNA MAKE REFERENCE TO AA AND NOT BE AN ACTIVE MEMBER, HOW COULD YOU EVEN SAY YOU UNDESTAND. THAT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL.

IF YOUR LONELY, SAY SO. I PERSONALLY DO NOT SEE HAVING FELLOWSHIP WITH AN ORGANIZATION THAT DOES NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUES I MAY BE SUFFERING FROM ANY HOPE AT ALL.

AS LONG AS I WAS NOT WILLING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF MOST DESPARE I WAS GONNA KEEP GETTING THAT MIND F@@K!

THIS SITE IS PERFECT FOR INTUITIVE UNDERSTANDING. IT DOES'NT TAKE LONG TO FEEL THE REAL! "
