MISERY

despair, delusion, lonliness, abandoned, anger, resentment on and on goes the list. I LIVED it. I thought it was all I deserved. Then something happened. I was told to look at myself, to own my part. I was told to accept that things happened. I didn't have to accept WHAT happened but I DID have to accept that it DID happen. (That by the way is a way to let go.) I began to let GOD (as in Good Orderly Direction) lead me. What happened and CONTINUES to happen is that all of the above were replaced. With HOPE, family, friends, freedom, joy and especially LAUGHTER.

Many here still cling to the misery of things long dead. Wallow in the sorrow of the wreckage of the past. Many also remain so self centered they think their way is the only way and will not adjust to the individuals that arrive in this room. One of the things that kept ME from Joy was to be locked into the idea that my life must forever be seriously focused on my recovery.

What set me free was the moment I told one of my "war stories" and saw how funny my insanity really was. All this to say LIGHTEN UP and get ready to laugh. At us, with us, and most important... at yourself.

" "Many also remain so self centered they think their way is the only way"

I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK:

My way may not be the only way - but it is the best way. Spiritual Principles (aka My Way) are the best way that the Universe has to offer.

"One of the things that kept ME from Joy was to be locked into the idea that my life must forever be seriously focused on my recovery."

JOY is a integral part of recovery. Humility has the teaching power necessary to open new pathways to experiencing JOY. "

" Bo... I agree in principle with everything you said but one.

My way may not be the only way - but it is the best way. Spiritual Principles (aka My Way) are the best way that the Universe has to offer.

It was the BEST way... for you. And more power to ya. Humility has many many meanings for differant people. For me it meant to be TEACHABLE. If I cannot remain so I can slide into complacency. That will mean my death.

By the way. I didn't start this thread to be arguementative. Only to express what over 17 years of recovery and 16 years working in the field have taught me. (OK that was an EGO statement) "

Whats Argumentative with that?

I'm proud to be more humble than you are! "

" nodp2day, boleon...lmao at u both! Thanks for that. (o;

ok, now back to ME...lol

Best sponsor in the world for me was 'Phil608'. He was teaching me to get the hell outta my own way! Stop being so self absorbed, if something bothers me then change it or get comfortable with it; accept it, or it could kill me!

When he and I went over my resentment list, he was able to actually break it down, and show me my part in it...which helped Immensely!, because I did play a part. He didn't say I was solely responsible, but that I am hanging on to shit that just doesn't matter!!! That what does matter tho is that I over come it and get the hell on with MY life, and stop worrying about what others are doing.

He puts it better...and hopefully I didn't screw what he says to me up, but you get the jest I hope!

Dave, I love u beyond believe! Thanks for ALWAYS being here for me...even when I try my damndest to push ur ass away!

Plz...don't you ever give up on me!

oh, I'm sorry...was this what this thread was about??? lol "

" Rainbow;

When I talk about humility, I am am not talking about humiliation, modesty or weakness.

I speak of the Humility described on page 58 of the 12&12:

"... a clear recognition of what and who we really are followed by a sincere attempt to become what we could be".

I suspect that is the Principle Phil was trying to teach you.

I may not know anything about modesty, but I do know what keeps me sober - the humility to see the truth about myself, my disease and my potential to change. "

" Chief Dan George was in many movies, one being The Outlaw Josie Wales, which I saw in the making. I met that man.

The movie you're quoting him from was "Little Big Man" and what he actually said was, "It's a good day to die."

Just thought I'd straighten the record out.

I just reposted my picture of Clint Eastwood and me in my photos from the movie they made in AZ. I was 20 at the time, it was 1976. "
