Does your Higher Power ever use pain to help accomplish your sobriety?

Pain has taught me every lesson I've ever learned. And I know because I have choice, God allowed it but it is necessary.

It's through the pain that we eventually reach out for help. Pain is what draws me back to God every time I stray from him. Without pain we would never want to change. Pain is a fact of life that is neccesary for us as human beings. It teaches us. All the best. James

Anything I've learned, any moral fiber, any belief, and any amount of strength I've gained has never been a result of the good times. They've come from me sitting in the middle of my living room with my knees up to my chest hurting so bad that I actually pray to die. Do I think God causes it? No, but yes I do believe He takes that pain and uses it for my overall good. Kind of like when we were kids and we'd touch a hot stove. We pulled our hands back because it hurt and we learned to not go near the stove like that again. I would not deliberately choose pain but I wouldn't trade what it has taught me for anything.

You pose and interesting question, and it is funny I ask this question to my minister, just this past Sunday. I use to believe that my most valueable lessons came through the darkest times, when my spirit and the goodness that comes from God overcome and I learned from the situation. NOw, just recently, our beloved Beerokka, encouraged me to read a book: Power through constuctive thinking, by Emmet Fox. (AWESOME BOOK BY THE WAY) tells us that only good things come from God, and temptation (as in the Lord's prayer, lead us not into temptation) That God doesn't give us temptation.
Now what I am going to say is not "my truth" just brain storming here, is it that we struggle and fall when we are not in "God's will" or "his commandments" or we are "missing our mark...to sin---an archery term...to miss ones mark." That we fall into darkness, but when we realize we are in darkness is that when we struggle for the light, seek God and spiritual truths, and return to that light, and then learn that ohhhh it was our mistake that lead us to darkness and seeking God brought us back to light? Hmmmmm.....Maybe it would be easier just to seek the light in "all of our ways." okay Nemo, ex-monk...what story shall you tell dear Sir? Good evening everyone, Peace and Blessings!

TO ME, THERE SEEMS TO BE A JUMPING OFF POINT, THAT GOES ALONG WITH THE PAIN ASSOCIATED WITH
HEALTHIER DECISION MAKING. ABSTINANCE IN REFERENCE TO CHANGE REQUIRED TO CONSUMATE A MORE SPIRITUAL UNDERSTAND ASKS, THAT I FIRST, BECOME AWARE OF MYSELF AND SECOND, MENTALLY CHALLANGE MYSELF TO QUIT THE SHIT! ITS EMBARRASSING TO BE SUCKING MY THUMB AT THIS OLDER AGE BUT, SOME HOW I MUST GROW UP! NO PAIN, NEVER, EVER, NO GAIN!

I believe that pain has taught me a great deal in my life and has allowed me to grow within myself and with God.

I've earned my seat in AA, solely through pain and defeat.
Alcohol is the only thing that has ever whooped my ass, every time I got in the ring.
