i am crying very hard as i try to type this. rene (reneglenn/renegs) just passed away a few minutes ago. i have been pm'ing back and forth with his wife, daughter, sister, brother, and brother-in-law. rene fell unconcious and though an ambulence was called he could not be revived. his brother-in-law said he had been sicker (lung cancer) than he told me because rene knew i had had a difficult life and didn't want me to worry. we got sober about a year ago around the same time and then we relapsed about the same time and eventually got sober again about the same time. though he was dutch and lived in holland and i am a texan we became the best of friends. we laughed a lot, cried a lot but we mostly celebrated the gift of sobriety we shared. we knew we were miracles and were, quite simply, astonished by it. my friend, rene, was a very nice man, an excellent drummer, and a great friend. he was just 49 years old.

I left for a while but I thought about him after I left the house and wondered what was up and wondered if it might be very serious.
