An old-timer with 23 years abstinence today in AA

Must have some issues he hasn't dealt with.
He was chairing the meeting that was suppose to going until 1:00 and at about 12:59 he interrupted the person that was talking rudely and stood up and said it was time to close the meeting. People slowly got up (I didn't want to-I thought we should let the talker finish) and we closed the meeting. This old-timer is a friend of mine and have known for almost 4 years now and he does NOT care what other people think of him to a fault. Everyone was shocked at this and I was angry at his rudeness and how it must have looked to the new people. It just goes to show how cocky some old-timers can get with their belief in their quality of sobriety and their "I don't give a shit what other people think of me" attitude. He owes an apology to this man that was speaking but knowing him as I do, I doubt he will apologize. Just goes to show that how many meetings a person has gone to and how many years of abstinence does not necessarily make a person have healthy sobriety. Posted on 07/24/08, 06:07 pm |

We had an incidnet similar to that from an old timer last week. He was corrected by other members at the meeting. Sadly, the shock to the new comer was a bit to much.

My friend took off out the back door, normally goes out the front door.
He knows he did wrong but oh well......... My brother knows Dewey well and won't be surprised to read this when he gets off of work.

Partially, you can contribute that to members on work release and home detention. They have an alotted time to get to their destination.
Some people like to get the last share and some people just like to hear themselves talk. I have cut a meeting off at about 10 after the hour, but the shit was getting deep. That was rude. There are tons of alkies that will always be miserable. Character defects that are not buried.. On the other hand I can see where the ol' timer gets real sick of heraing all the BS for 23 years.. Same ol' song and dance to him.. His recovery is all he probably cares about...He has seen alot come and go. Rambling Diane~~~LATES~~~

From my exp. and my opinion it doesn't matter how long you are sober, what are you doing in recovery a big difference
First thing came to my mind was, what about a new person that says shit if this is whats it all about I'm out of here and never comes back. If this guy is always like this, this is what I call a dry drunk.

Hey guns if that's the way the old timer thinks, he heard it all ECT, he shouldn't be chairing. My sponsor told me early on when I would complain about someone saying the same think over and over, he told me they heard your BS and its time to hear there's
Never forgot that..

GNR,
People can get up and leave that need to leave at a certain time. The meeting hadn't even gone until 1:00 yet, he closed it a minute early. Dewey likes to be in control. He called my name to speak today and I hadn't signed that I wanted to talk and he's done that before and I usually do when he calls me but today I didn't feel like doing what Dewey thought should be done. Maybe that pissed him off too. I don't know. He also called other people's names that clearly didn't want to talk and hadn't put their name on the list to talk. The guy that was talking is from a different town and very well-liked. It was his last day to be here and speak and he was saying good bye pretty much.

No doubt GJM.. My sponsor tells me the same thing.
Are AA home is right next to the jail, so the card-signers are abundant. You have to have some sort of control,, or it will be like, an all-out orgy. Place does get aggravating,, especially when you know 1/2 are eating methadone like candy.. Gonna scram, before this gets messy!!

Not going to get messy from me.
I know all of the cards were signed and I know everyone had them back in their pockets. There's control and there's control freaks.
