Your last drunk

I am curious to hear others experience about their last drunk. When was it and what happened, and most importantly, did you do what you set out to do?

Part of my process of identifying as an alcoholic was to see that I set out that night of my last drunk to not drink, or to moderate, but I couldn't. I knew I probably shouldn't be drinking. I offered to be the designated driver to go to a party. I figured I'd have one drink or zero. One turned into several, and I drove despite my better judgement. I can't tell you how many hundreds of times I drove under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, though I never got a DUI. I can't tell you how many times I didn't want to drink but couldn't say no, or wanted to stop at a certain number of drinks, but couldn't stop. I kept trying to "control and enjoy" my drinking.

I am glad I learned I need to abstain from alcohol and work a 12 step recovery program. I don't ever have to drink again.

My last drink was February 13, 2005. My sobriety date is February 14, 2005 because it was described to me early on I could count my first 24 hour period of sobriety as my birthday.

" My last drunk was last Thursday. I had been drinking for 3 or 4 days almost straight. I would get up long enough to get the kids off to school, start drinking and go to sleep. I still have not started any programs. I am hoping that just talking to people here will help me. "

" My last drink occurred late into the evening on April 12, 1988, two days after entering treatment.

I was considered a chronic alcoholic and was told by my counselors that if I didn't stop they didn't expect me to live much longer. For the first time in years I listened to someone.

I don't think I ever considered "accomplishing" anything at that point other than getting my next drink lined up. That had gotten a lot harder since I lost my place to live in November of the previous year and had been living in an abandoned house; not the best setup for a Minnesota winter.

I was stealing, "boosting" (shoplifting and returning items for cash, thanks Target!), and scrounging drinks, and a little coke from friends.

It's all a bit of a fog, actually, and I didn't know at the time that it was my last drink. I just wanted some relief and it was on my last day in treatment that I actually established the date as 4/13.

Been a long time since I told anyone that, thanks.

So, welcome. It's nice to go through this with other people, right? "

" There are some who say remembering your last drunk won't keep you sober-but so far it has been an excellent deterrent for me! I was in my bathroom unable to keep liquor down after coming back from the gas station at 7 am with a case of beer...waiting until 10 for the liqour store to open for some hard stuff..unable to drive there by 10 I was so sick.....the rest is a blur. The next night, god visited me in a fantastic dream. It was no whisper, god shouted out in that dream. My life has been forever changed. "

" Well I thought my last drunk was going to be a bit before I went into treatment and ended up in the nut house because I scared everyone that I had taken pills BUTTTTTTTTTT..........

My actual last drunk was on my way to treatment on April 10th.

United Airlines was late leaving from my point of origin so I missed my plane in Denver and ended up with a 6 hour lay-over.

BIG MISTAKE to have a lay-over like that. My husband tried to plan my trip so that there wouldn't be a lay-over but since I missed my plane to Orange County (I don't remember being in the bar) I know I drank for all those hours before catching the next plane.

I must have maintained pretty well though for them to let me on the plane but once I got in the air, all hell broke loose from what I'm understanding.

It's not my fault, it's United Airlines' fault. *LOLOLOL* "

" My last drunk was April 7, 2007. I got scared, got in my car, drove to another city, bought a bottle of rum and a 6pk of Coke and spent the night driving around drinking.

I ended up in the driveway of some friend's house, passed out in my car, engine running and the lights on.
Sometime that night I had gotten sick fell down and was covered in dirt and sand.

The memory of what I looked like when I looked in that mirror, covered in voimit and dirt with my face bruised for the fall is something I will never forget. "

" My last drunk was August 7th, 1993, when I kicked my husband in the head in front of EVERY person I knew because I didn't want to "LEAVE THE PARTY YET."(?)
(2 or 3 AM of course.)
I used to make a fool out of myself in front of this person or that person or a couple here and there but NEVER everyone at once.
Easier to quit and let them know I was remorseful than to apologize and drink again the next day! :) "

" The 12 step programe will help anyone who is willing or who hit bottom like I did. I was a hard case but I put my head down and my ass up and got the job done. You are a wonderful person Loved1 so keep at it because you are worth it. Thanks to the 12 steps and a spiritual awakening I have been sober since 1/1/1999. Feb 14 sounds right to me. "
