been sober now for a little over 3 years for the 3rd time and just realized the absolute importance of stteps 6 & 7 with the help of so many wonderful people in my area and a book called "drop the rock" ever read it? It has so many ah ha moments in it. I was always told 6 & 7 were basically the same steps become willing and pray and those are important but there is foot work to these steps, I could really use some experience from others who've done some foot work with these 2 steps and how u came to realize the importance of getting out of the way

" Once you have completed the first five steps, you go back and reflect on them.
Step 6 is the WILLINGNESS to have all your character defects removed.
Step 7 is ASKING your HP to remove all of your character defects, I did it by the BB, with the 7th step prayer;
“My Creator, I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows. Grant me strength, as I go out from here, to do your bidding. Amen.” We have then completed Step Seven.

Thank God for a good sponsor that made me do thorough step work so 6&7 could be easy.

From my experience, that was it! "

" I always follow the instructions in the book. They say to go home after step5 and reflect for an hour on our work so far. If we are happy that we have done the first five steps satisfactorily we then immediately do steps 6 and 7.

We should have a list of character defects from steps 4 and 5 so be clear on what we are asking God to remove.

We follow the instructions in the book regarding prayer.

We then enter into a life of spiritual growth where we continue to inventory our behaviour,watch for these defects, practice spititual principles in steps 10,11 and 12. "

" As has already been stated pray about them. The other thing you can do is to learn how to step outside of yourself and watch yourself. In other words when you have displayed one of your character defects stop and take time to review what happened as time goes by you will start to see a pattern and soon will be able to stop in the middle and soon avoid them entirely.
A word of caution God may let you hang on to some of them for a very long time for a couplke of reasons. first you probably developed them as a self defense mecanism which God will not let you lose until you are capable of dealing without it and two God may have you hang on to some defects in order to use you to be of service to others. Say you talk about one of your defects in a meeting and someone comes up to you afterwards and expresses how they are struggling with that God may be using your defect to help that person. Good luck, remember it's practice not perfection. "

" Some may disagree what’s new but I like to keep steps 6-7 simple.

Step six is the things that I am doing that I shouldn’t be doing. My defects of character.

Step seven is the things I should be doing but I am not doing. My shortcomings.

I don’t have any defects of character, they have me. lol

God Bless…
Lionel "
