I decided to quit smoking without talking to my sponsor first, M.D. put me on Wellbutrin...started 10-7-08. So, I planned on stopping 10-12-08. My father passed away August 15th, 2008 after a year long struggle with a blood disorder. My mom and I were his primary caregivers. Also, my ex husband and I who had reconcilled last year split up again. But he agreed to stay til after my father passed to help with our 5 year old daughter. It was a mutual split but then he started a relationship immeadiately after moving out. (OUCH!) I have 11 years clean and sober. Mye ex has 12 years clean and sober and he is now in a relationship with a newcomer. This has rocked not only my world but also our homegroup. I realize he is "acting out" on his disease and I am powerless. But damn it hurts and I feel rejected even though the break up was a mutual agreement.
My sponsor suggested waiting until the dust settles before I try to quit cigs...any suggestions are welcomed. I needed a place where I feel safe sharing my pain because I do not feel comfortable in my own homegroup to vent all my pain right now ( this too shall pass) So, I guess I am just venting and letting ya'll get to know me. So you can see why I have joined 4 support areas, recovery, bereavement, break-ups and addiction recovery. Thanks for letting me share. {{{HUGS}}} Posted on 10/10/08, 11:10 pm |

Sounds like you have been through so much...nice that you are spiritually fit and able to make it through such hard times and remain sane and sober. You are stronger than you give yourself credit for.
Just cuz someone gets and stays sober doesn't mean life doesn't hand us challenges.

Honestly I think it's up to you to decide when to quit. I would like to say that I quit smoking using Chantix, and it works great! Many insurances cover it, but some don't...it worked for me! Good luck, and stay strong!

Sounds to me like you can quit anything you want to when you want to.
You're strong. Also sounds like you like to challenge yourself. Challenge yourself and go for it. I bet you can do it and blow smoke up a bunch of ...welll...you know...

Go to the nearest book store ask for a book called "The Easy Way to Quit Smoking" by Alan Carr. Read it slowly and review often as it says. review it over and over. Then skip all the drugs and quit. It will explain everything.

yes, you can do this. You are strong, stronger than you know. And, vent away here(vent in the discussion forum next time, more people read that than the advice column).

Take into account Welbutrin was developed as an antidepressant and was found to help with smoking cessation. It works well with situational depression and may be benificial in your case. Talk to the doc. see what he says. Stopping the nicotine while dealing with so many other issues could be more harm than good right now.
