No way. My son is 11 and wants one too because a lot of his friends have one. He's too young. There are way too many crazies out there.

I was browsing through the posts from this group and your question just jumped out at me. I have an 18 year old daughter who for years had her profile on My Space without my knowledge or permission. I thought I was very vigilant about what she did on the computer at home but little did I know. At 17 my daughter ran away from home. My 12 year old son told me to look at her My Space profile to see if she had written anything about where she was. I looked at her profile and didn't find anything about where she was but I found out a whole lot of other things about my daughter that I didn't know. My little darling was smoking pot, posting nude pictures of herself, inviting strangers over to our house for "hookups" when my husband and I weren't home and these hookups were with men and women. I also discovered that she considered herself Emo and was cutting herself because it was cool. I was shocked until I started looking through the profiles of other people on My Space and realized that a whole lot of the teenagers on My Space are doing the exact same things my daughter was doing because that is what is cool now. This site is definitely not for children. I don't even think it's appropriate for teenagers. If you decide to let your daughter have an account, monitor it very closely and keep her profile on private. Good luck!

we have a lap top..she is sitting right next to me when she uses it. I am a federal officer- I secure my daughter first. I trust my daughter and it seems to work well..our computer has parental locks as well. when she is on, she cant bring up adult things certin words will lock her out. I am Ok with her U tube account. She can have no contact with anyone on the site nor can they contact her. My space is not for kids. neither is U tube but out of the 2...I let her get on U tube under my supervision.

You could be the president of the U.S. and your daughter can still pick up bad habits, lol. I've known sons/daughters of cops and other people who instilled fear and order in their kids lives only to send them out to do the worst possible things eventually as teenagers. Never take for granted that she is doing what you tell her to do.
