Another chicken pox vaccine?

Just wondering if anyone has heard about children getting a 2nd vaccine for chicken pox. My son had it as a baby and I heard it will be offered again at his "well visit" next month. I saw a newsletter from a school in a neighboring county that said it was spreading around the school this past spring and was advising parents to get another shot.

Has anyone else heard of this? What are your thoughts?

" When I made my son's appointment, it sounded like it would be an "option". I'm just wondering if he gets his, but is around other kids that did not get it, does it increase his chances of still getting it from them (like the flu shot).

I think I'll go to the CDC website and see what else I can find out. "

" Chicken pox, like flu, is always optional unless your child has problems fighting illness. If you dont want him to get it, just let them know. My brother got chicken pox 2 weeks after his 2nd dose and it was so bad he almost had to be hospitalized. Best wishes! "

" Thank you - I don't have a problem with him getting it. I just didn't realize it was twice. I saw on the CDC that it is 2x. I think I was confused because the doctor told us last year he would not get shots at age 6, but now they said he could get this one. I just thought it was new, but perhaps its just that it is optional. "
