Pinworms?

I was wondering if anyone has dealt with a child having pinworms. I have looked on-line but just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or info about how a child could get this. Is it more common during certain times of the year, or due to any hygiene habits? This is the 2nd time in less then one year that my stepdaughters have it. They are age 5 & 8. They have bad habits of sticking their hands in their mouth often.

I'm just baffled because I come from a large family and I never heard of this before and my mother and grandmother say they never knew anyone with it.

Thanks!

" I have heard about this and I don't think it is UNCOMMON. Gross, but not uncommon. It happens mostly with school age kids. In a nutshell, it is very contagious and is spread when someone who is infected scratches their tush and touches any surface. The unknowing suspect can then touch the infected surface and if they put their hands in their mouth, they can get the pinworms. So yes, it seems to be a hygiene issue. Wash your hands and don't itch your tushy and you should be good to go.

To prevent pinworms you have to train your children to wash their hands after using the bathroom, before eating and teach them not to put their hands in their mouth. Bathe them daily, change underwear daily (duh), that kind of stuff.

Thankfully it isn't harmful, just itchy and annoying and I hope the latest case resolves itself quickly! "
