Potty mouth

Here lately my 4 yr old son has picked up words from my hubby, and has developed a "potty mouth". I try to censor myself around my children, and i encourage my hubby to do the same, but he doesnt. My 4 yr old knows its wrong to swear b/c when he hears other ppl say it he said " awww you said a bad word" but yet repeatedly uses them himself. I constantly tried to explain that he shouldnt be saying bad words, put him in the "naughty corner",& take away toys ( for a little while), but its still not working. Any ideas?

" tell your hubby that it's gonna be ral cute when the kids goes to school, daycare (or where ever) and gets in trouble because of his language.
hubby needs to stop swearing around them. you can't really punish the child if a parent exhibits the same behaviours. "

" It's hard sometimes trying to control what someone else does...ex: How hubby talks around the kids. I have the same issue. What has worked for me is that when hubby uses foul language my daughter and I express together how it is not nice. She enjoys being on mommies side about somethings it makes her feel mature and smart. She just turned 4. Of course mommy is usually smarter in the eyes of your children. LOL "

" Punishment for every offender worked with us. When our three year old nephews are around and we do something that is unacceptable for them, we get called on it and have to be punished as well. So if dh or I say a naughty word one of the little ones will notice and usually say something like, "you said a bad word. go sit in the corner for two minutes."

Then, of course, we comply because fair is fair. Keeps us on our toes because that corner is soooooo boring. There's no one to play with. "

" My daughter picked up a couple of "choice" words thanks to her father which were not nice and she was younger, about 2.5. I just ignored her as the more I mentioned it the more she did it! She soon stopped, she was only doing it for a reaction and as soon as she realised she wasn't getting one the game became boring. Also harsh words with your husband are needed, I was always onto their dad about it. "

" i think the adults around him HAVE TO stop swearing if you want your child to stop. He will repeat what those around him say--period. I 'slipped' one time in front of my son---i guess he was 2 yrs and 10 or 11 months and then i heard him say the same thing (the D word). It was so awful in my opinion that i never "slipped' again and---its been fine. The adults around him just have to stop or else he wont. "
