Getting Dry at night

My boy is 3 1/2 and has been dry in the day for best part of the year. He has a nappy at night which is 'full' when he gets up. On waking in the morning he gets up, goes to the bathroom and takes his nappy off and does his wee.

I want to start the process of trying to get him to get dry during the night.

Any ideas where to start???????

" This can take time, much more time that daytime dryness. A few things you can do, cut out liquids (except water to swish after teethbrushing) about 2 hrs before bedtime. OF course if he's been out running hard, he'll need some water, just try to not overdo it. Also, no caffiene. Make srue he goes before bed, when you go to bed, get him up and take him to the potty. Generally even though they are still half asleep they will go after a few seconds.

My daughter has been trained for close to a year (is now 3) and she still isn't dry at night although she has been waking here and there at different times and I think it's cuz she needs to go but doesn't understand why she's waking yet. So we're getting there. Try not to push it too much, limit liquids and keep him going at night. Hang in there, it will come. :) "

" Don't rush it! My daughter is almost 4 1/2 and is still not completely dry at night. Some nights she tells me she wants to wear a diaper and wakes up dry, other nights she tells me she can go without and makes it though the night. From time to time we still have accidents without a diaper. The main thing is DON'T STRESS OUT!!!! It can backfire and it will take longer.

Last summer at 3 1/2 she could stay dry on some nights, then winter came and she wet the diaper almost every night. It was as easy to get her out of a warm bed to use the toilet in the winter. (I didn't want to either!)

One day, he will tell you he doesn't want to wear a diaper ever again and that will be that.

Just remember, he won't go to college wearing a diaper! "

" I always take cues from my kids. My 2 older boys too a little longer than my little girl did. We are in the process of potty training our 4th child (a boy) and he does awesome during the day, but has a full pull-up when he wakes up in the morning. I have never limited my kiddos drinks at night(we are in s.c. and its too hot for their drinks to be limited so we let them have water) so whenever they started staying dry some at night, off with the pull-ups and on with the mattress protector! A friend of mine would wake her son up before she went to bed at night and now at almost 8, he still needs her to wake him up, or he has an accident. Be patient it Will happen, good luck!! "

" My 7 year old was in pull ups till he was 5 1/2. My 4year old is dry at night. sometimes it is the luck of the draw. My youngest didn't want to wear pull ups at night so I told him if he was dry in the am for 2 weeks we would get rid of the pull ups. It took a couple of trys but he finally did it! My oldest just had a smaller bladder and needed more time to make it through the night. They say if they don't grow out of it by a certain age you can try a bed alarm. Your son is still young. Try motivation (sticker chart for example)
Good luck! I am so glad to be out of the diaper stage! "

" I had a problem with my daughter who is now five having accidents at night. She was three at the time and potty trained in the daytime when she was two. We did all the things suggested but we also made a star chart. For everyday she woke up dry, she got a smiley face and a check mark when she was wet. It worked great and within no time she was dry throughout the night. "

" my daughter is 4 years old and has been day potty trained she was 3. I have screwed up so much with the night potty training... I thought I'd share so you would all feel better about yourselves.

We put her in a pull up for the first few months and she woke up pretty wet every morning. Then when I was about 8 months pregnant with my 3rd she was waking up at about 2AM calling for me to take her to the potty. She'd pee, and then wake up dry. But mommy was very, very tired. After about 2 weeks of this, I told her to go herself or pee in her pull up. She chose the 2nd option. Then for a while she would wake up dry .... for a few weeks. So I suggested she was ready to get rid of her pull up at night and wear panties. But the idea terrified her and her preschool director told me to let her wear her pull up, what's the big deal? So I did... and then after a while, the dry mornings stopped and she was wet again. Sigh. Now I have gotten into the dumb habit of getting her out of bed before I go to sleep (at about 12am) and putting her on the potty (she's completely asleep) and she pees and wakes up dry.

I haven't been stressing about it... much. I think for whatever reason, her body just isn't ready to go all night. Although as I type this I am skeptical because earlier she WAS... so I don't know anything. Good luck to us all! "
